Year three have started a unit of work on traditional tales. They have focussed on Snow White as they will be attending the Pantomime next Thursday in Nottingham. They have written instructions for the cleaning of the dwarves house, written speech to the Magic Mirror and written about the history of pantomimes. They have really enjoyed learning about slapstick comedy and all the different characters involved in a panto. Please encourage the children to learn their songs for their performance. They can be found on our school website.

What a week! We had an amazing start with our very own football World Cup.  On Monday, Year 5 and 6 all took part in a football tournament.  It was lovely to see all the children supporting each other and trying their best to win for their team.  On Tuesday, we took part in the Road To Riat.  This was a STEM workshop where the children worked together to make a rocket and design a sustainable aircraft.  The best design will be chosen and sent off to the Smallpeice Trust to be entered in a competition.  We had some special visitors in school on Wednesday.  Two wonderful reindeers came and all the children had the opportunity to see them and have a talk from two of Santa's Elves.  Yesterday was our Christmas Fayre and it was brilliant.  It was so lovely to see the school looking so festive and opening the doors to everyone to come and celebrate with us.

This week has been extremely exciting as Christmas has arrived. Seeing the deer was especially exhilarating and we loved listening to the elves talking about them. The Christmas Fayre was lots of fun and we are thrilled the elf has arrived in our classroom! Mrs Cave is not so excited!!!!!

Of course, we are still learning about South Africa and the importance of Nelson Mandela and concluded that vinegar had an extreme effect on the egg shells.

This week, it was extremely exciting to have parents in for our Science workshop. Although the egg shells that had been immersed in different liquids for a week were rather disgusting, they gave the children an insight into how liquids can affect their teeth- we will look at the results further to make our final conclusions. We have also learned about different climates in Africa, linking to our topic. Obviously, the resilience shown by the children completing tests was fantastic and we look forward to sharing results with you in a few weeks. Christmas also arrived... the first Christmas tree is in our entrance hall, sprinkled with snow and presents beneath... exciting things to come!

Linking with this, in topic, we have learned about the different biomes in Africa. We have revised counting in Spanish to 31 and will learn when our birthday is. Our performance is taking shape with the songs (Which can be found on the website) being rehearsed and the play practiced.

Year 3 had a wonderful Science afternoon. The parent workshop was all about the size of a shadow relative to the distance an object is from a light source. The parents had a great time in the dark measuring the little rabbit’s shadow. Thanks so much for their support it means a lot.
