How is it already the end of our first half term!

Well done to everyone for settling in so well to the challenges of Year 6. This half term we have been so busy with swimming, embedding our foundational skills and developing our reading fluency.

In Science this week we have tested changing variables in circuits to see how this affects the output of components. We have learnt about Alexander the Great in Topic and completed our DaaRT graduation!

We hope you all have a lovely, safe break!

We have had a lovely week in Year 4. We have started our daily swimming lessons, done lots of Rainbow Grammar work and work around punctuation and recapping of basic maths skills. We also managed to finish our Maths unit on Place Value and will be looking at Addition and Subtraction from next week. We also really enjoyed learning lots more about our history Topic on the Ancient Egyptians with our Egyptian Day. We looked at canopic jars and a life-sized mummy which we could remove organs from. We also tried our hand at weaving, amulet making using clay and were introduced to the ancient Egyptian game of Mancala. One of the highlights from the day was the Virtual Reality experience where we learnt lots of new interesting facts about Ancient Egyptian pyramids, Pharaohs and daily life. Please hand in your topic homework books next week. The spellings for next week are below. Have a lovely weekend.

Year 5 have had a very busy week this week. They all particularly enjoyed their VR workshop yesterday. The children loved having the opportunity to explore the concept of space in a different way and deepen their understanding. They have also spent time really coming to a secure understanding of addition and subtraction. This is something the children are now really beginning to enjoy as a result of their new found confidence. We are hoping that the children will continue to grow in confidence in this area throughout the remainder of the academic year.

Fri 09 Oct 2026 Miss Ottowell & Miss Carmichael

This week, we have been working in our new Maths and English groups. We have been developing our understanding of number and place value with numbers up to 10 million and in English, we have been using fronted adverbials, subordinate clauses and prepositions, to add more detail to our writing before we begin writing our own myths next week. In History, we learnt about Ancient Greek hoplites (soldiers) and the weapons and armour they would have had. We're not sure that we could carry a huge 1 metre wide shield and an 8 foot spear!

Below are the new spelling lists for next week. Keep learning them.

  • Year 6 Class News

    Fri 02 Oct 2026

This week has been our final week of swimming and the children have made excellent progress and demonstrated their ability to use a variety of different strokes, perform self-rescue and swim over different distances.

We have continued our foundational skills lessons recapping and consolidating our knowledge of word classes, multiplication facts and written methods for addition and subtraction.

In Science, we made and tested circuits to establish what a circuit needs to work. We have learnt about Athens and Sparta in our History lessons and completed our DAaRT sessions ready to prepare for our Graduation.

Remember there is no more swimming now so we don't need our kits.

    Have a lovely weekend!

Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed their first week of swimming and have not let it distract them from any of their other learning. They have worked hard to publish their first piece of writing in year 5 and they look absolutely lovely! The children also represented the school really well going to and from the church and whilst we were there this morning. We hope they keep this up for every visit to come.
