Year 6 News
Fri 29 Nov 2024In Maths, we have been learning how simplify and compare fractions, using our times table knowledge to help. We have also learnt how to convert mixed and improper fractions. Fractions really aren't as horrible as the children thought they were!
We completed our diaries in English, which were linked to the Highwayman. The emotive language, thoughts and feelings were particularly impressive and showed a good understanding of the characters.
Everyone created rainbows in Science this week, using water, a torch and a mirror as well as prisms. This showed how light is actually made up of a spectrum of colours. We will be using this knowledge to write an explanation text in English next week.
Please remember to bring clothes for swimming next week (2.12) as it's a water safety session. A normal swimming kit is needed too. Full length leggings, a long sleeved top and football skins are ideal. Nothing loose please.
Have a great weekend

Year 6 News
Fri 22 Nov 2024We had a brilliant trip to Newstead Abbey, where we took part in a range of activities, to help us understand what life was like during the Victorian era. There was the opportunity to play with Victorian toys and make herb bags. The games in the great hall were really fun and lots of us had to do forfeits. We also got to see what a Victorian school room and bedroom would have looked like.
This week, the children have been completing their assessments and everyone has tried really hard, showing us what they have learnt during the Autumn term. Well done!
To end the week, we held our class debate in celebration of Parliament Week. The question was 'Should space travel be banned?' We had a great debate with lots of confident contributions. Everyone listened to the different ideas and shared their responses and counter arguments. The majority of the class voted in favour of space travel not being banned.
Have a great weekend

We started the week with our parliament week assembly delivered by our school council. We learnt about parliament, how to debate and the reasons we would hold a vote. Science may have been the highlight this week with the children learning about forces applied to a parachutist.
In P.E we learnt how to ‘tut’ (dance with our hands and combine it with a routine. Spanish was devoted to animals and their descriptions. Wear what you want day was a huge success with many prizes donated for our winter fair and rehearsal for our Christmas singing concert is sounding wonderful.
