In Maths, we have been finding the area and perimeter of compound shapes. As it was test week, the children had their final chance before SATS to see how much progress they have made and we can say that we are extremely proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the week. Fri 08 Mar 2024This week, we completed our unit of work on algebra, where we found missing values and we have now moved on to percentages. In PE, the children have continued to create sequences of movements and balances and added rolls this week. To celebrate World Bok Day, we read the story 'Hullabaloo at the zoo' to give us ideas for our own zoo themed stories. Some told the story of special talents but some told the story of the mischief animals get up to when the zoo is closed. The children made books, to publish their stories. They did a fantastic job!

Fri 08 Mar 2024Year 4 have had a great week. After our initial swimming assessment last week, we got lots of swimming practise this Monday and are looking forward to next week for our next one! We have started a new unit in English and will be working towards writing and making an advert to persuade our audience to buy a chocolate that we have designed (we were inspired by the Mayans and how they were famous for their chocolate!). In maths, we have moved on to calculating fractions of amounts e.g. 2/3 of 15. Our reading sessions have been around our class book The Chocolate Tree and in Topic this week, we looked at where the Mayan civilisation settled and have labelled their countries and key cities. On Thursday, we had World Book Day, we read The Getaway and have made our own books complete with illustrations inspired by Ed Verve’s book. Next week is our test week so make sure you have been practising our Year 3/4 100 word spellings and times tables.

Year 3 News 8.3.24
Fri 08 Mar 2024Another busy week in Year 3, the highlight being World book day. The children read and investigated the book called ‘Stuck’ where a boy keeps throwing things into a tree and they all get stuck. Some children then wrote a 2nd book to this called ‘unstuck’ with all the items falling back out of the tree, some children wrote their own version of ‘stuck’ where they had their own items falling out. In DT, we carried out market research to find out what different toppings people like on their pizza. The children finished their recounts on the Roman invasion of Britain and these were really well written and the children had taken lot’s of care over presentation. In Maths, we have been investigating and learning about mass and how to read a scale on a measuring scale. Next week is test week so there will be no spellings, children just need to practice 100 words.
