Year 6 News
Fri 17 Oct 2025Well done everyone on a fantastic first half term of year 6! This week we have mastered long multiplication and applied this to problem solving. In English we have begun working on writing a non-chronological report on the origins of the Olympics - did you know they used to compete naked!
We had an exciting science lesson where we investigated how changing the components in a circuit can affect the function of bulbs and buzzers. In PE we have played some competitive games of football - well done to everyone for taking part!

Year 5 News
Fri 17 Oct 2025We have had a fantastic first term in Year 5. Whilst our visit to St Helens Church didn't go as planned this week, we still managed to have our harvest festival as the church very kindly came to us. Today, we have been busy finishing our money boxes in DT. It is a really tricky unit as it can be really fiddly and at times, very frustrating. However, all the children demonstrated great resilience and determination to finish their final product. In English, we have started out new unit based on the book 'Hidden Figure'. It is a fantastic book and highlights events from the past, encouraging children to think about how others are treated and discuss our British Values and Protected Characteristics. In maths, we have finished out unit on addition and subtraction and after half term, we will be focusing on multiplication and division.

Year 4 News
Fri 17 Oct 2025Year 4 have been learning how to add and subtract with 4-didgit numbers this week and have done some examples that require exchanges with addition. In English, we have been doing more on our narrative unit, focusing on using adverbs, conjunctions and prepositions to express time and we have been learning to punctuate speech correctly. On Tuesday we had our parent workshop where we focused on using expanded noun phrases in our equipment list for a set of instructions on how to mummify a pharaoh. In our Independent write this week we build upon this and wrote a whole set of instructions with the same title. We have come to the end of our Topic unit on The Ancient Egyptians now and will be moving on to our Africa unit with a focus on South Africa. In Science, we are sticking with the same topic of Animals Including Humans but will move on to looking at teeth and food chains. We hope you all have a safe and happy half term break! We will see you all again in November.

Year 3 News
Fri 17 Oct 2025So we have reached the end of our first half term in year three!! It has been so eventful and so rewarding to get to know the children and they have climatised to life in Albany Juniors really well. This week we have started writing our newspaper reports about the Croods and it was lovely to see so many parents in for the rainbow grammar workshop. Lessons will change next half term with computing, design technology and Jigsaw lessons being completed for the first time.

Year 6 News
Fri 10 Oct 2025Well done to everyone on another fun-filled week! This week we have painted our Greek pots using traditional colours and geometric designs. We have published our Greek Myths which we are incredibly proud of. In maths we have been looking at different types of numbers including prime, square and cube numbers and applying our knowledge of these to reasoning and problem-solving questions. Thank you to all of the adults who joined us for our grammar workshop, we hope you enjoyed experiencing our English learning. In topic we have learnt about the lasting Legacy of the Ancient Greeks and the achievements of Alexander the Great.
Next week we have a visit to the church for our Harvest Celebration - if there are any adults who are free to join us to walk down to church, we would greatly appreciate your help!

Year 4 News
Fri 10 Oct 2025This week, Year 4 had an amazing start to the week with Egyptian day – we looked at a life-size replica mummy and canopic jars and looked into the process of mumification. We danced like an Egyptian, did some weaving and we also thoroughly enjoyed our Virtual Reality experience being taken back into Ancient Egypt. In Maths, we have been looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. In English, we have done a little more work on our narrative unit by writing diary entries for our main character, looking at using expanded noun phrases and including feelings and emotions.

Year 3 News
Fri 10 Oct 2025Children were all full of information to support them after our successful Stone Age day on Monday. Settle building, Skara Brae posters, Stone Age board games, Fire pit and Stone Age Cave Art were all carries out. We had a science week this week with three lessons to cover how fossils are made and found (ask your kids). P.E units nearly at an end with the children really coming on in hockey and gymnastics, working really well together in both. We started our stone age art drawing on tea stained paper to great effect.

Year 5 News
Fri 10 Oct 2025Where is the time going! We can't believe that next week is the last week of this half term. This week, we have been finalising our travel adverts using Canva in English and have been working on addition and subtraction in maths. With it being Space week, we have had two live lessons this week all about space. Next week, we will be writing up our biographies about Tim Peake. In topic, we researched Florida and will compare the two states - Florida and Alaska - next week.
On Monday, we will be walking to St Helens Church in the afternoon for our Harvest Festival and on Wednesday it is our English Parent Workshop. If you are able to come, please make sure we know in advance.

Year 6 News
Fri 03 Oct 2025Well done everyone on another busy week, we have achieved so much! We have all written our first draft of our Greek Myths, we have made Ancient Greek inspired clay pots in Art and have conducted investigations into how circuits work in science. On Thursday we had a poetry morning where we read and created poetry for National Poetry Day.
Well done to everyone for taking part in the Great Athlete sport event and thank you to everyone who helped to raise money for our school. We are looking forward to welcoming our adults into class on Friday for our Grammar Workshop!

Year 5 News
Fri 03 Oct 2025WOW! What an amazing week we have had. On Tuesday, we welcomed two Nottingham Panthers players to school and today, we have had the Olympian Joel Fearon in school. We have been overwhelmed by your support and generosity by sponsoring your child to help raise money for Great Athletes and our school, putting money towards new sport equipment. We will let you know how much money we have raised once we have the final total next week.
In English, we have written up our travel guides and have begun creating TV adverts for our location. Everyone is really excited to record their own advert. In maths, we have moved on to addition and subtraction and have been researching the astronaut Tim Peake in science. Earlier in the week, we started sawing our wood ready to make our money boxes.
