This week in Year 4 we have published our newspaper reports on the Grendel attack in the Beowulf story we have been reading. In maths, we have finished our unit on money and have moved onto our unit on time. In topic, we have looked at the cities within England and we have done some market research and planned our sandwiches in DT. Next week is Test Week and we will also be doing work based around our British Values. We encourage children to learn their Year ¾ spelling words and common exception words (see below) in preparation for next week as they will be tested on these. Have a lovely weekend!

This week, we have completed our topic on rivers. We found out why they are important and we researched some of the world's major rivers. We were amazed by the size of them.

In Science, we have been learning about inheritance and why variation occurs between living things. We took a Mr Men and Little Miss character and thought about what features their children might inherit.

We have also been working hard on our DAaRT and leavers' performances.

Transition days have taken place this week at Friesland. Next week, it's Bramcote.

    Have a great weekend

Another fab week in the sun, children are looking forward to the upcoming sports day on the 7th and the Albany Adventure to the zoo on the 22nd July. We have been working hard to finish our newspaper reports on the tragedy at Macbeths castle and in Maths we completed our negative numbers unit with great success. Spanish we continue to use singing to learn our body parts and in History we are learning all about the infamous King Henry VIII and his array of wives. PE has been fun this week practising for sports day and Go Zero is back with us drafting a letter to our local MP. In Art we’ve had fun drawing and shading facial feature to improve our portraits on a Tudor style.

This week year 3 have been working hard on their last bits of preparation for test week next week. They have thought about grammatical features, shape and angles. The children have also particularly enjoyed their last trip to the library for this year and even got the chance to understand some of the rules of chess.

This week, we started our topic all about rivers. We have learnt about the importance of the water cycle and the features of a river. On Thursday, we enjoyed a rather warm walk to the River Erewash, to do some sketching for Art and we also investigated the speed of the river.

Today, to celebrate Refugee Week, we spent the day learning about refugees and their experiences. We also wrote a class poem and a class pledge, linked to the theme 'Community as a superpower.' Another task was to create a welcome letter or a postcard that could be given to a refugee, to make them feel welcome. The ideas and responses were brilliant.

    Next week, swimming is normal.

    Have a great weekend.

Fri 20 Jun 2025 Miss Hubert & Mr Harding

Lovely five days in sun this week. Might be a bit too hot for me though. But despite the hot weather, the children have continued to work hard. Year five have been writing a newspaper report on the wrong doings at Macbeth’s castle in Dunsinane. We are looking for patterns and sequencing with decimals in maths moving on to multiplying and dividing. We have moved on in art, drawing portraits in more closely by concentrating on looking at features in more detail and in Spanish we have also moved on as we are now learning part of the body.  We had a lovely school picnic on the field on Wednesday and refugee day was on Friday, we looked at what refugees have to endure and what is being done about it.

More sunshine next week, enjoy your weekend.

This week in maths, we have started our new unit on money and have been learning how to convert amounts between pounds and pence and ordering and comparing amounts of money. In English we have started our new unit on writing a newspaper report about the Beowulf attack and have looked at the features of a report, sequenced the events in the story of Beowulf and have written our headlines and orientations. For our independent writing this week, we wrote diary entries as King Arthur on the day of his coronation, using the present perfect tense. In Topic, we have looked at counties within England and in Science, we have finished our lesson on how sounds are made. On Friday, we had Refugee Day and have learnt what a refugee is and why they become one, showing empathy and respect towards them.

Year 6 have worked really hard this week on their independent writing. There have been some excellent descriptive pieces and an emotive diary entry.

Year 5 have had a great week. We have made huge progress in our decimal work in Maths and we are now ready to write our letter from Macbeth to Lady Macbeth to warn of the witches predictions. Music produced some wonderful singing with new songs introduced in our Friday singing assembly and most children can now recall sentences about their family in Spanish. We had a fabulous tennis and rounders lesson in the sunshine with so real stand out talents and finished off the week with an experiment in science which is always nice. Have a lovely weekend everyone.
