We have had another busy week and we have continued to enjoy our advent treats.

On Tuesday, we really enjoyed our trip to the Pantomime, to see Jack and the beanstalk and we loved joining in with the boos, cheers and singing.

In English, we have written our explanation texts and we also had our parent workshop, where we focused on non-finite clauses.

We have lots to look forward to next week before we break up for Christmas.

Fri 13 Dec 2024 Mr Harding

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

The Jack and the beanstalk pantomime on Tuesday was a great success, year 5 were on their best behaviour and loved it.

We have been writing instructions on how to catch Santa Clause in English using our bossy, imperative verbs and soldiering on with adding and subtracting fractions with a different denominator in Maths. In Science we investigated levers, pulleys and gears creating our own lever and measuring where the pivot needs to be to balance with different weights. We started our R.E topic looking at the Christmas story and created our own modern version through drama. Our final dance routine was filmed in P.E and we excelled in making our Climate Change speeches our Go Zero lesson.

    Fri 06 Dec 2024

Another jam-packed week in year five. Lots of fun and lots of hard work too. It was lovely to see most of you at parent's evening and what a positive evening it was. We have also completed the art boards for Hickings lane park so go and have a look.

Albany advent has started, with the children being treated each morning. In science we completed our paper helicopters, learning all about air resistance and in art we started making our Indus Valley clay beads for our jewellery. The Christmas fair was also a huge success on Friday, thanks you all for coming.

    Fri 06 Dec 2024

We started the week celebrating the beginning of advent and everyone is enjoying the daily treats from Mrs Goffin. We also learnt how to be safe and how to rescue others in the water during our swimming lesson. A really great skill to know.

This week, we have continued our work on fractions, learning how to add and subtract a range of fractions, including mixed numbers. Times tables are really important in helping us to work with fractions so keep learning them at home please.

In DT, our doll's house project is really starting to take shape. Working in teams, we have different rooms that are being created. Furniture is being made and wallpaper and flooring are being added too. We can't wait to see the finished products.

We are all looking forward to the Albany adventure next week!

    Have a great weekend.

Fri 29 Nov 2024 Miss Ottowell

In Maths, we have been learning how simplify and compare fractions, using our times table knowledge to help. We have also learnt how to convert mixed and improper fractions. Fractions really aren't as horrible as the children thought they were!

We completed our diaries in English, which were linked to the Highwayman. The emotive language, thoughts and feelings were particularly impressive and showed a good understanding of the characters.

Everyone created rainbows in Science this week, using water, a torch and a mirror as well as prisms. This showed how light is actually made up of a spectrum of colours. We will be using this knowledge to write an explanation text in English next week.

Please remember to bring clothes for swimming next week (2.12) as it's a water safety session. A normal swimming kit is needed too. Full length leggings, a long sleeved top and football skins are ideal. Nothing loose please.

    Have a great weekend
