Another busy week preparing for SATS in Year 6; everyone is trying their best and working really hard.  It was lovely to get outside today and begin our annual 6H vs 6T Scatterball competition!!!  We have started our topic on Scandinavia this week and classification and inheritance in science.  The children should have come home this week with a letter about the Year 6 breakfast club during SATS week.  Monday to Thursday, the Year 6 children will be encouraged to arrive from 8am to have breakfast and speak with the Year 6 team.

It has been lovely to see the Year 4s back at school this week and we are looking forward to a busy and exciting term ahead. Our topic is the Vikings (there is a trip in May linked to this and letters will be given out next week) and in Science we will be finding out about electricity. A reminder that PE days are now Monday and Tuesday. Have a lovely weekend. Hopfully the sun will continue to shine.

It was so lovely to see the children on Tuesday after two weeks off.  We hope you all had a lovely Easter.  This week, the children have been working really hard preparing for SATS that start on the 9th May.  In maths and English, we have been busy revising and focusing on aspects of SPAG and maths the children find a little tricky.  On Thursday afternoon, we went to St Helens Church for our Easter Service.  It was the first one in two years so it was so lovely to get back there and celebrate with the Church.  Thank you to the adults that came with us, we really could not do it without your support.

We have had a really busy start to the term. We had a brilliant time at White Post Farm, holding, stroking and feeding a range of animals such as goats, lambs and a lizard. Everyone enjoyed the tractor and trailer ride around the farm too, getting a better view of the farm animals. We also visited St Helen's Church for our Easter service. All of the children demonstrated our 5Rs on both trips.

Year 3 have had a really positive start back to the Summer term. We are finishing our Fractions topic in Maths and the next topic will be Time. It would be really helpful for the children to learn to tell the time using a watch with hands rather than digital. We are writing diary entries in English. Our new topic is the Ancient Rome and the children have already started to bring in some fabulous homework. We are studying plants in Science and will be completing some investigations over the next few weeks. An exciting term!

This week, it was 4M's turn to go to the allotment. We had such nice weather for this and it was lovely to get out in the sunshine, hunting for different mini beasts. 4H finally got to do their Science afternoon based of Alice in Wonderland. They have produced some great work.

In English, we have been looking at a Mayan folktale and adapting the story to create our own modern version. It's been great to see how imaginative the children have been.

This week, we have completed reading, maths, spelling and grammar assessments. The children tried really hard and we will let you know how they did at parents' evening on the 28th March. In topic, we found out how deforestation is affecting animals and the world around us before making super eye-catching posters. We had a fun Science afternoon, based on Alice in Wonderland. We used plastic bottles and cone mice, to investigate forces and how Alice managed to get the character Little Bill up the chimney and how we could make him get as high as possible. We will update you on the Zoolabs visit in next week's news!

This week was test week and we're so pleased with how hard Year 4 have worked. 4M had a Science afternoon which was all based on Alice in Wonderland while 4H took a trip to the allotment where we went pond dipping and mini beast hunting! We've also learnt about the Ancient Maya number system that they invented and have been working out calculations with their numbers.

Yesterday, Thursday 10 March, the year 6 visited the Holocaust Centre. We have really enjoyed the WWII topic up to now and it was important that the children understood further just how the Jewish population was discriminated against during the second world war. The children were respectful towards each other and towards where they were throughout the day and they behaved impeccably. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day had by all and we cannot wait to go again next year.

This week in Year 5, we have experimented with different art mediums, including combining wax and watercolours. In topic, we discovered how rainforest animals have adapted, to survive in their habitats. We have continued our work on decimals and we have started learning about percentages, thinking about where we see them being used. In preparation for assessment week, we have been focusing on grammar, including apostrophes and word classes.
