Year 4 News
Fri 09 Feb 2024What a busy week!
We have learned all about Edmund Hillary- the first man to summit Mount Everest with his sherpa, writing a biography about him. We got to go to Clip n Climb to be mountaineers ourselves and the excitement- the staff there said all the staff said all the children were polite and engaging 🙂
Additionally, we have been studying our RE unit- all about pilgrimages to different places in the world for different religions. As it has been Mental Health week, we have also been investigating how we can feel good and happy and ways to manage stress. The MyHappyMInd work has supported this.
Happy holidays- we made it. After half term, swimming will start on a Monday afternoon on the second week back (26th Feb) and continues until Easter. I have enough parents for 26th Feb but need one additional one for 4th March,11th March and 18th and 25th March. Please see Mrs Marshall if you can help as it can sometimes get confusing when some tell the office and I don't receive the message.
The first week back - PE kit should be worn on the Monday but it is Mayan Day on the Tues so we won't be doing PE.

Year 3 News
Fri 09 Feb 2024Happy Half term, this week we have worked the Year 3s very heard. In Maths, they have been learning about perimeter and adding and subtracting lengths. In English, we have been exploring emotions of those involved in the Roman invasion on Britain and writing sentences using speech, adverbs and conjunctions. In RE, we have explored learning about what is prayer and how people pray and what they use. It has also been Children’s mental health week so we have been doing activities that help us to understand ourselves better, like a self-care jar, writing our thoughts and feelings down and exploring how to find our voice appropriately. The children also thoroughly enjoyed our 5 weeks of Swimming and I am sure they will be very sad it has finished but they should be proud of all they achieved. We hope you have a restful week and here are the spellings for after half term.

Year 6 News
Fri 02 Feb 2024This week, in English, we have been learning how we can use linking adverbials and relative clauses in our Anne Frank biographies. In PE, we have continued to develop the attacking and defending skills and tactics that can be used in a game of basketball. To end the week, we have spent the day learning about an aspect of local history - Sir Richard Arkwright. We found out lots of information about him and why he became famous whilst investigating the question 'Was he a hero or a villain?' The children have been using evidence and information about life as a factory worker, to justify their answers to this question.

Year 5 News
Fri 02 Feb 2024It has been a lovely week in Year 5 this week. In English, we finally got the chance to have our debate about who would have made the best King of England after the death of Edward the Confessor. Everyone took part and it was so lovely to see the children speak so passionately and use evidence they had gained from their topic lessons to support their points. In Science, we have learnt about different ways the seeds of a plant can be dispersed. On Thursday, we welcomed parents in to the class for one of our Rainbow Grammar sessions, focusing on non-finite clauses. As always, it was lovely to have so many of you come and take such an interest in what your children are doing in school. They really do love it when you come!
Next week will be a little different in school as we are having a focus on mental health and wellbeing and will be completing our RE unit for the term.

Year 4 News
Fri 02 Feb 2024This week, Year 4 have worked hard on being journalists and writing a newspaper article about Nigel Vardy's misadventure. We also learned about the climate of mountains and that it becomes colder, the higher up the mountain you go. Additionally, we painted a water colour image based on the work of Nicholas Roerich (a mountain!). Next week, we are looking forward to becoming climbers ourselves at Clip n Climb- thank you for the pennies for this.

Year 3 News
Fri 02 Feb 2024Year 3 have been very busy this week, with the highlight being making Roman shields. These will hopefully go home this evening. In Maths, we have been busy switching between different measurements mm, cm and m. In English, we have been researching about the Roman invasion of Britain building up to writing a recount of all the events. In Topic, this week we have found out more about Gladiators and Gods. In Science, we have been setting up an investigation into the effect of different conditions on plants. Here are next weeks spellings.

Class 6 News
Fri 26 Jan 2024This week, year 6 have had a great week with their writing unit, finding out many facts about Anne Frank and how the Jewish Religion were treated in the lead up to and during the second world war. Within out humanities, we also looked at how people stayed safe during the blitz and what precautions were put in place. All the children have worked extremely hard and we have had some fantastic outcomes in lessons. Below, you will see next weeks spelling list.

Year 5 News
Fri 26 Jan 2024This week has flown by! In Science, we have continued learning about plants and the different types of pollination. In History, we learnt about the Doomsday book. We learnt about what it was, why it was introduced and how different groups of people would have felt about it. In English, we have been learning about debates and have started to develop our own thoughts and ideas about who we believe should have been crowned King after the death of Edward the Confessor. We are really looking forward to having our own debate next week. On Thursday 1st February, we will be inviting parents in to school for one of our English lessons. Please see the letter coming home tonight.

Year 4 News
Fri 26 Jan 2024In Year 4, we have been continuing our mountains unit, writing a newspaper report about Nigel Vardy and his dramatic mountain rescue as well as learning more about the climate of a mountain in topic. In Science, we have set up an investigation regarding evaporation.
Remember next Thursday morning 9-10 is our Parent Workshop on writing. Also,in the last week we have Clip n Climb- please keep slips and pennies coming in (also for Mayan Day). Swimming letters have also gone out for when we start in the second week after half term.

Year 3 Newd
Fri 26 Jan 2024Year 3 have had another jam-packed week of learning. In Maths, we have finished Multiplication and Division and started our new topic of Length and Perimeter. In English, we have finished our set of instruction on ‘How to Make a Roman Shield’ and the children are really excited that they will get to make these next week. In Topic, we learnt about all the inventions that the Romans created that we still use today and the children were fascinated at how clever the Romans were. In Science, we learnt about a scientist called George Washington Carver who invented over 100 uses of peanuts! In DT we have designed our shields and trialled different ways to make handles.
