Year 3 News 8.3.24
Fri 08 Mar 2024Another busy week in Year 3, the highlight being World book day. The children read and investigated the book called ‘Stuck’ where a boy keeps throwing things into a tree and they all get stuck. Some children then wrote a 2nd book to this called ‘unstuck’ with all the items falling back out of the tree, some children wrote their own version of ‘stuck’ where they had their own items falling out. In DT, we carried out market research to find out what different toppings people like on their pizza. The children finished their recounts on the Roman invasion of Britain and these were really well written and the children had taken lot’s of care over presentation. In Maths, we have been investigating and learning about mass and how to read a scale on a measuring scale. Next week is test week so there will be no spellings, children just need to practice 100 words.

Year 6 News
Fri 01 Mar 2024Year 6 visited the National Holocaust Centre this week, where they found out what life was like for Jewish families during WW2.
Exciting news - Mr Tivey's 2nd child was born this week so he is taking some time away from school, to spend time with his family. While he is off, we are focusing on reading and Spag boosters in the morning and we have continued our work on algebra in maths. Everyone is working really hard.

Year 5 News
Fri 01 Mar 2024This week has flown by again! In English, we have finished writing our non-chronological reports about the rainforest and they look fantastic. In maths, we completed our end of unit assessment on fractions, decimals and percentages. I think it might have been their favourite unit as everyone did really well. In geography, we have been focusing on the different layers of the rainforest and the different animals that can be found there.
Next week, we have our special rainforest day where the children are invited to come to school dressed like an animal from the rainforest and contribute a small donation to help protect a rainforest animal. Last week, we voted to sponsor a jaguar.

Year 4 News
Fri 01 Mar 2024This week has been a busy week. On Monday, we started our swimming lessons and we’re very excited to get stuck into our lessons this term. In English, we have completed our Mayan-inspired folktale stories and have now published them. Next week, we will start our unit on persuasive writing and work towards writing and creating an advert for chocolate (something that the Mayans are famous for)! In Maths, we have been doing more learning on fractions, we have been converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions and have practised adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and simplifying our answers where possible! In Topic, we have looked at the Mayan timeline and have ordered important events during the Mayan rule and we have been grouping living things based on their characteristics in Science.

Year 3 News
Fri 01 Mar 2024Wow, that week went by fast. I think the children’s highlight might have been the food tasting as part of our DT. This week the children have also written some fabulous independent writes about Boudicca, you can tell the children are inspired by her. We have finished our drafts and edited our writing about the Roman invasion of Britain ready to write them up neat next week. In Maths, we have been looking at fractions on a number line. In Science, we have been facintaed at how clever plants are and how the life cycle and pollination work. Our Tag Rugby skills are coming along nicely, as is our dance that we are creating together. We hope you have a nice weekend, next week is World Book Day, we will not be dressing up but still have lots of activities planned. Here is next weeks spellings.

Year 5 News
Fri 23 Feb 2024Despite the wet weather, we have had a good week. It was lovely to see everyone after the half-term holiday. This week, we have started our new topic in geography, learning all about rainforests. To help deepen our understanding, we will be writing a non-chronological report all about them in English. In maths, we have been focusing on decimals, looking at: place value, rounding, comparing and ordering. This term, we are continuing to learn about different life cycles in science.

Year 4 News
Fri 23 Feb 2024This week we had our Mayan day on Tuesday, it was very exciting! We met an explorer and learnt a lot about where the Maya Civilisation come from, the climate, animals, religion and so much more! We even had the opportunity to dress up as Mayan Gods!
In English, we have started a new-unit writing folktales and have looked at the features of the Mayan folktale ‘The Chocolate Tree’ and have planned out our own versions to write next week. In Art, we have been researching about Mayan masks, as we will be creating our own later in the term.
We are studying animals and their habitats in Science now and this week we have looked at the seven life processes that define a living thing.
We have also resumed our Spanish lessons for this half term and have been learning about Spanish colours.
We start swimming on Monday, so make sure you bring your swimming kit and do not wear earrings on swimming days.

Year 3 News
Fri 23 Feb 2024Year 3 have settled back into routine nicely this week, we are really looking forward to this half term as there are so many trips and exciting learning opportunities. In Maths, we have started learning about fractions, as staff we have been blown away at their knowledge on this topic. In English, we have been planning and starting to write our recount on the invasion of Britain. In Science, we have learnt about ‘photosynthesis’ and how water is transported throughout the plant. In PE, we have started to learn a dance routine and also Tag rugby. We hope the children sleep well this weekend with food tasting to look .

Year 6 News
Fri 09 Feb 2024This week, children have enjoyed getting stuck in with our mental health and well-being week. Every day, we have dedicated 1 hour to mental health and well-being through a variety of different curriculum activities such as the daily mile and a number of PE activities on Monday, a mental health assembly on Tuesday and Spanish singing on Thursday! We have rounded the week off completing our RE unit, learning about how Jewish people were persecuted during the Second World War as well as completing our writing for pleasure on Friday afternoon! We hope the children have a fantastic week off for half term and we are looking forward already to seeing them on Monday 19th February.

Year 5 News
Fri 09 Feb 2024It has been a slightly different week this week as we have been focusing on mental health and well-being. The children have taken part in a number of activities to try and make them aware of how they can look after their own mental health. On Tuesday, we welcomed a visitor from the MHST who delivered an assembly about well-being. After half term, we will be learning about rainforests and have a really exciting day to look forward to. More information will be given during the next half term.
