Fri 06 Dec 2024 Mr Tivey & Miss Brown

This week, year 3 have been super busy continuing their unit on 'The Secret of Black Rock'. They are really engaged with the unit and they are loving the rumours that the story can create. We have continued practicing our christmas production and we will be going to ST Helens church next week to do I final rerun before performing to parents/ carers in the last week of term. The children are behaving really well in what is a busy period for everyone! As ever, we are super proud!

    Fri 06 Dec 2024

Another jam-packed week in year five. Lots of fun and lots of hard work too. It was lovely to see most of you at parent's evening and what a positive evening it was. We have also completed the art boards for Hickings lane park so go and have a look.

Albany advent has started, with the children being treated each morning. In science we completed our paper helicopters, learning all about air resistance and in art we started making our Indus Valley clay beads for our jewellery. The Christmas fair was also a huge success on Friday, thanks you all for coming.

    Fri 06 Dec 2024

We started the week celebrating the beginning of advent and everyone is enjoying the daily treats from Mrs Goffin. We also learnt how to be safe and how to rescue others in the water during our swimming lesson. A really great skill to know.

This week, we have continued our work on fractions, learning how to add and subtract a range of fractions, including mixed numbers. Times tables are really important in helping us to work with fractions so keep learning them at home please.

In DT, our doll's house project is really starting to take shape. Working in teams, we have different rooms that are being created. Furniture is being made and wallpaper and flooring are being added too. We can't wait to see the finished products.

We are all looking forward to the Albany adventure next week!

    Have a great weekend.

In Maths, we have been learning how simplify and compare fractions, using our times table knowledge to help. We have also learnt how to convert mixed and improper fractions. Fractions really aren't as horrible as the children thought they were!

We completed our diaries in English, which were linked to the Highwayman. The emotive language, thoughts and feelings were particularly impressive and showed a good understanding of the characters.

Everyone created rainbows in Science this week, using water, a torch and a mirror as well as prisms. This showed how light is actually made up of a spectrum of colours. We will be using this knowledge to write an explanation text in English next week.

Please remember to bring clothes for swimming next week (2.12) as it's a water safety session. A normal swimming kit is needed too. Full length leggings, a long sleeved top and football skins are ideal. Nothing loose please.

    Have a great weekend

Fri 22 Nov 2024 Mr Tivey

This week year three have had a very resilient week with tests. They have behaved incredibly well and they have tried their absolute best in all areas of learning. We have continued to practice our Christmas production and today, we have been exploring the importance of the triangle in construction work. This week, we also had a visit from the mental health support team to give the children some advice on how to regulate themselves when they may be feeling sad. They were polite and respectful and they worked very hard in these sessions! As ever, we are super proud of the way they have conducted themselves 🙂

Fri 22 Nov 2024 Miss Ottowell

We had a brilliant trip to Newstead Abbey, where we took part in a range of activities, to help us understand what life was like during the Victorian era. There was the opportunity to play with Victorian toys and make herb bags. The games in the great hall were really fun and lots of us had to do forfeits. We also got to see what a Victorian school room and bedroom would have looked like.

This week, the children have been completing their assessments and everyone has tried really hard, showing us what they have learnt during the Autumn term. Well done!

To end the week, we held our class debate in celebration of Parliament Week. The question was 'Should space travel be banned?' We had a great debate with lots of confident contributions. Everyone listened to the different ideas and shared their responses and counter arguments. The majority of the class voted in favour of space travel not being  banned.

    Have a great weekend

Test week this week and what a wonderful job the children did.

We started the week with our parliament week assembly delivered by our school council. We learnt about parliament, how to debate and the reasons we would hold a vote. Science may have been the highlight this week with the children learning about forces applied to a parachutist.

In P.E we learnt how to ‘tut’ (dance with our hands and combine it with a routine. Spanish was devoted to animals and their descriptions. Wear what you want day was a huge success with many prizes donated for our winter fair and rehearsal for our Christmas singing concert is sounding wonderful.
