Year 4 News
Fri 14 Mar 2025This week in Year 4 we have started our fractions unit within Maths and have been looking at fractions and decimals in terms of fractions less than one whole and those greater. We have also looked at tenths and hundredths and have been converting between them. In English, we have planned another adventure for Marcy, ready for us to write up as our own narrative in our next English lesson. In reading, we have been reading extracts from The Chocolate Tree which links to our History Topic The Mayans and within our Topic lessons, we have been using maps to identify where the Maya Civilisation lived. We have also designed and have started to make our Mayan inspired masks.

Year 3 News
Fri 14 Mar 2025This week, year 3 have had a fantastic week researching in many different areas of the curriculum. In DT, we have done some market research on what our preferred pizza toppings are ready to make our pizza dough next week. We have been researching the different diets of Vegans, Vegetarians, Omnivores and Pescatarians and we have also been recapping on some of the more important events during the time the Romans were in Britain in order to create our recount in English. As ever, it has been super busy and the children have behaved really well. Next week is test week. Our afternoons will be working as normal but our mornings will be a little different. Because of this, there will be no spelling list sent home or spelling test on Friday. The children are amazing and they will be absolutely fine, showing us what they are capable of! Year 5 News
Fri 14 Mar 2025It has been very quiet in Upper School this week with Year 6 and Mr Harding at Hagg Farm but Year 5 have remained focused, working hard in lessons, getting on without any fuss. On Monday, we finished our non-chronological reports about the rainforest and the results were amazing. All the children worked incredibly hard and produced a beautiful and well written report. In maths, we have moved on to statistics and have been reading and interpreting line graphs. We have also used line graphs to present information and answer questions.
Things are getting quite exciting in our Let's Go Zero lessons as the children are now starting to plan their projects for reducing our school carbon emissions. They are working in groups to develop an action plan for their project and will soon be putting them into action around school.
Next week is test week but we will still have our usual spelling test on Friday. Please see the spellings for next week below.

Year 6 News
Fri 07 Mar 2025It has been another busy week!
In Maths, we have learnt how to understand the data shown in pie charts. We have also been revising other areas such as fractions and percentages.
On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day, where we talked about our favourite books and authors. We also created our own 'Who am I?' riddles, giving clues for people to solve. Some of them were tricky! To end the day, we had an ultimate character champion battle, to decide which character was the best out of the ones the children had chosen. Clear reasons were given during each mini battle, to prove their reasons why. Well done!
We have also taken part in Science day and lots of fun activities. Everyone spent the day in their houses, completing the different tasks. They learnt about topics such as microplastic pollution and 'Should we flush it?'
To those going to Hagg Farm next week, have an amazing time.

Year 3 News
Fri 07 Mar 2025This week year 3 have had an amazing week! We have been super busy starting our new maths unit (fractions). We have also been continuing our work on Roman Britain, exploring how the Romans were so successful in their invasion of Britain. It has been a very different week in many respects as the children have also enjoyed world book day, where oracy was our focus. We had lots of debates on questions such as (Should Primary School children be allowed mobile phones?). We also completed an activity where the children told us their favourite spot for reading! To cap the week off, the children have been split into their houses and they have been moving around school, completing a number of activities for our annual Science Day as part of British Science Week. A super busy week deserves a well- rested weekend! Stay safe and we will see you all on Monday.

Year 4 News
Fri 07 Mar 2025This week has been a very busy and enjoyable one in Year 4. We have finished our unit on length and perimeter and have started our new maths unit on fractions having recapped on the difference between unit and non-unit fractions. In English, we have been writing more journal entries for our character Marcy from Mary and the Riddle of the Spinx and have written examples of speech which will help us when writing our own stories. We also had an independent write this week with our writing stimulus linked to our Mayan topic. In Spanish, we went over our colours and we also resumed our swimming lessons after the half term. On Thursday, we enjoyed World Book Day and had the opportunity to develop our oracy and storytelling skills and really get to know our characters from our favourite books. On Friday, we split into our different houses and have been taught about various different aspects of science under the theme of 'Change and Adapt'.

Year 5 News
Fri 07 Mar 2025Fabulous week in year 5 this week. We have smashed our rainforest non chorological reports in English and made real progress when moving onto learning the area in compound shapes in Maths. It was very interesting watching the classes teamwork in P.E with problem solving tasks and working out our school carbon footprint in our 'Go Zero' lesson. The highlight of the week was very close between World Book Day on Thursday and Science day on Friday, with the children enjoying and participating excellently in both.
Our spellings will be the same as last week due to World book day and Science day interrupting the schedule

Year 6 News
Fri 28 Feb 2025It has been great to see the children after the half term break.
This week in Maths, we have been finding percentages of amounts and equivalent decimals and fractions. Our knowledge of place value has really helped.
In English, we have written our balanced arguments, identifying reasons and evidence for and against. We have also been trying to include causal conjunctions and linking adverbs.
Our sponsored read week begins next week. The more we raise, the more books we can buy for our libraries. Please get involved if you are able.

Year 5 News
Fri 28 Feb 2025Wow! What a great first week back. We have started our new Geography topic about the Rainforest which links to new class novel ‘Journey to the River Sea’. This week we have started learning about our family in Spanish with the amazing Senora Cresse and continued our science unit about life cycles. The children hit the ground running with their Independent write this week creating creative stories about a tiger approaching them in the jungle. ‘Go Zero’ lessons have continued focusing on sustainability and in P.E (which is on both Mondays and Thursdays) we started learning how to play hockey.

Year 4 News
Fri 28 Feb 2025This week Year 4 have started a brand new narrative unit in English based upon the book Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx. Children have been writing journal entries to for key parts of the stories and have been looking at using expanded noun phrases and adverbials to show time and place. In Maths, we have finished our unit on perimeter and length, this week we have been working out the perimeter of various rectilinear shapes and finished with a maths investigation regarding the perimeter of animal enclosures. In Topic, we have started our Mayan's unit looking at the Mayan timeline of events. In Science, we have also started our new unit of Living Things and their Habitats, looking at the life processes of living things. Attached are also our weekly spellings for Year 4 so that you can practise at home.
