Year 4 News
Fri 22 Nov 2024This week the children have worked really hard in all their assessments. As part of parliament week, both classes have held a debate and voted on a topic chosen by the school council. We have learnt about the different layers of teeth in Science and have sketched the face of Nelson Mandela in preparation for our art final piece. Next week, we will be continuing our Maths unit on Area and start a new unit on persuasive writing in English now that we have published our South African Diaries.

Year 5 News
Mon 18 Nov 2024Another great week in year five!!
The clear highlight was karate day on Thursday. In English we are continuing with our biography writing, researching the innovative Isaac Newton (favourite fact so far was his dog set his laboratory on fire destroying 20 years of research).
Maths has concluded our multiplication and division unit with some great progress shown. In science we are exploring gravity and now know the difference between weight and mass while completed experiments using our Newton measuring metres.
Dancing continued with Mr Riley in P.E with some stand out performances and we continue to explore the issues of climate change in our new Go Zero lessons. Finally, this week our Art unit has begun with the children sketching ancient Indus Valley jewellery.

Year 3 News
Fri 15 Nov 2024This week, year 3 have been doing an amazing job, writing their travel diaries. They have used a range of different clauses to convey their feelings, thoughts and emotions. We have continued with our music lessons, exploring ballads and the deeper meaning behind them (The children have loved listening to David Bowie and Bryan Adams!) We are continuing with our DT unit on bridges (thankyou to your contributions so far on the project) and this week, we have explored some of the different bridges around the world. Year 3 have been brilliant this week and as ever, we are super proud of them!

Year 4 News
Fri 15 Nov 2024This week in Year 4 we have finished publishing our South African diary entries and have also finished our maths unit on addition and subtraction, moving onto area of shapes. A highlight of this week was our karate session on Thursday, we learnt a few different kicks and were able to practise them. We have also practised our balancing skills in Gymnastics.
In Topic, we have looked at the different biomes South Africa and in Art, we have been able to show movement of figures by using lines.

Year 3 News
Fri 08 Nov 2024Year 3 have had a really good first week back. We have started our next unit of work in English, writing a descriptive travel diary entry about visiting different places in Peru. The children have also enjoyed their first music lesson of the year, exploring different ballads. The music did not end there either as we visited St Helens church on Friday afternoon and celebrated our harvest festival and we also started practicing for our Christmas production! The children have been brilliant all week and we hope they have a good, well-rested weekend!

Year 4 News
Fri 08 Nov 2024Year 4 have settled back in well after half term. In English, we have started our new topic on Diary entries, we have used at the typical features used in a diary entry and have had lessons looking at some of those key features for writing our own next week. In Maths, we have started a new unit on addition and subtraction and have moved onto 4 digit-numbers that require exchanges. Our new topic this term is South Africa and has a Geography focus, our lesson this week looked at different climate zones. Our reading unit this half term is from the book 'Journey to Jo'Burg' by Bevery Naidoo. Within our PE lessons we have had our first lesson in Gymnastics and Basketball. Our Spanish lessons have also resumed for this half term. On Friday, we had a lovely visit to the church as part of Harvest Festival.

Year 5 News
Fri 08 Nov 2024Wow! What a great first week back. We have started our new History topic about the Indus Valley which links to new class novel ‘Gilgamesh’. This week we have started learning our colours in Spanish with the amazing Senora Cresse and began increasing our knowledge on different forces in our new science unit. The children hit the ground running with their Independent write this week creating creative stories about a floating house.
Brand new this half term was our ‘Go Zero’ lesson, the children were excited to produce and perform their newspaper reports, teaching us about the effects of climate change.

Year 6 News
Fri 08 Nov 2024We have been so impressed with the attitude and resilience shown by the children in our Maths lessons this week. We have been learning how to use long division, to divide by 2 digit numbers. Throughout the week, after lots of practice, everyone's confidence has grown hugely! Brilliant work Year 6!
This week, we started our new History topic, which is all about the Victorians. We created timelines, to show key events from this era. In Computing, we explored the features and tools that can be used whilst working with spreadsheets and Excel. In our English lessons, we have completed our non-chronological reports about the Ancient Greek Olympics, which have been presented beautifully. Our new unit of work is about 'The Highwayman.'

Fri 18 Oct 2024We have had a fantastic half term. This week, we have been busy finishing off our money boxes in DT. During the unit, they used a saw to chop their wood and learnt about different ways of joining wood to make a frame. The finished products look fantastic and they have all worked really hard. We have now finished our North America unit in topic and will be moving on to the Indus Valley next term. If you have some free time over the break, have a look at the new homework grid.
