Year 3 have had a very interesting week, we have been finishing off our unit on time, please can you keep practicing over the holidays. In English we have been hot-seating members of the Roman times and finding out what it was like to be alive during the battle of Watling Street. Well done to all the Year 3 children that took part in the Music showcase, I know they worked very hard. We have also been working really hard on times tables, there will be TT rockstars homework so please log on and get your children to keep practicing. Thank you for another busy half term, we look forward to our final half term with the Year 3’s. Miss Tilley and Mrs Cave.

This week, we were lucky enough to meet the Norseman Jarl Magnus, who led us through our Viking Day in his longhouse- where we learned about the Viking way of life and history and in the woods, making dens, scavenging for building materials as the Vikings would have had to do. Additionally, we have learned about the Anglo-Saxon king Alfred the Great and read Beowulf a little more. In Science, we have studied conductors and insulators of electricity. We have been able to design our torch ready to make before half term.

Fri 19 May 2023 Miss Hubert and Miss Stephenson

On Monday, we were really excited to get back in the swimming pool after our bank holidays. This week, we have also started to write our myth in English and have moved on to a new topic in maths on decimals.  In science, we have planned and completed an investigation in groups to find out which material makes the best thermal insulator. In our topic lesson, we compared a town in Scotland (Polbeth) to our town Stapleford, looking at the similarities and differences into their populations, physical features and human features. To end the week, lots of the children in Year 5 performed in the choir and played instruments to the rest of the school in our Friday’s assembly. A great performance!

Fri 19 May 2023 Miss S Ottowell & Mr Tivey

This week, year 6 have certainly enjoyed the fact that SATs is out of the way and we are making fantastic inroads into the rest of the curriculum. We have spent the week doing lots of writing, following up on King Charles III's coronation. We have written a formal speech and a formal letter of congratulations to King Charles. In addition to this, we have explored our topic of Scandinavia, learning some really interesting things about the countries of Denmark, Sweden and Norway. We are all looking forward to the half term break next week but will continue to work really hard in the mean time.

Fri 12 May 2023 Miss Hubert and Miss Stephenson

This week Year 5 have been learning how to translate and reflect shapes in mathematics and have been revising our knowledge of grammar in English. In science, we enjoyed experimenting with separating mixtures through sieving, filtration and using magnetism and evaporation.  We also enjoyed our debate over whether Scotland should be independent or not as part of our topic lesson. We all want to congratulate Year 6 on working so hard through their SATs this week and to celebrate this, we had a lovely SATS celebration meal with staff in the hall. We are all really excited to get back to swimming on Monday next week. Have a great weekend.

We would to say a HUGE well done to all of the children for the effort that they have put in and the attitude that they have shown this week. We are so proud of you all! It was lovely to see so many at breakfast club each day too. The party lunch and film afternoon was a great way to celebrate and end the week. Next week, we will be starting our new Scandinavia topic.

    Fri 12 May 2023 Mrs R Marshall

This week we have continued to learn about the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. We discovered the brutality of the invasions from Scandinavia and will be writing a newspaper report about the events at Lindesfarne. We have created switches for circuits in preparation to create our torches and have discovered why circuits may not work in Science.

We are looking forward to the trip on Monday to Perlethorpe, where we will meet a Viking and discover a Viking longhouse. Children will need to wear school uniform top and PE bottoms and trainers. Please remember a water bottle and packed lunch (unless ordered from school). I will try to order sunshine!
