What a week!  Four days has flown by.  Today, we have been celebrating King Charles' Coronation.  In class, we have written a non-chronological report about him and explored how long previous Kings and Queens reigned for.  We had a lovely celebration lunch and it was great to have children from Albany Infants with us.  In topic, we learnt about different festivals in Scotland and how they celebrate them. In science, we looked at the difference between dissolving and melting and what happens when some solids are melted.

Due to the bank holiday, there will be no swimming on Monday but we have set spellings for next week (see below).  Please help encourage your child to learn them.

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and will see you Tuesday!

This week has flown with it only being 4 days but we have been as busy as usual. We have been planning and beginning to write our own stories based on Cressida Cowell's 'How to Train Your Dragon " and have continued to read the Anglo-Saxon saga of Beowulf. In Science, we were able to experiment with Scientific electrical components (wires, bulbs, cells and batteries) in order to make a circuit. Linking to this in DT, torches have been studied- their purpose, the different types, when they may be used and what their casings are like and why. We will be making our version of a torch in a few weeks. The children have been asked to think about what they want their casing to be like. They have studied nets and so could use card, however is there something you have at home that they could use? A kitchen roll, plastic bottle etc...

Have a lovely extra Bank holiday weekend.

It has been another busy week with lots of Maths, SPAG and reading work. We are really impressed with how well the children are working during our revision sessions. It's not long now - keep going! The children evaluated the carousels that they made before Easter and thought about what went well and what could be improved.  We're also looking forward to our coronation celebrations next week. Enjoy the long weekend!

Another good week in Year 5.  In maths, we have been using a protractor to measure and draw angles which always proves to be a little tricky.  However, the children have done really well.  In English, we have continued or work on debating whether or not the Loch Ness Moster is real and the children have been writing a balanced argument to present the reasons for and against the monster's existence.  In science, we have been looking at the solubility of different materials and making saturated solutions.  Below are attached the spellings for next week.  Please help your child to learn them.  Have a lovely weekend!

This week, we have been continuing with our topic of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, learning more about their way of life and place names that originated in these times. In English, we have written a letter from a Viking King trying the persuade the Anglo- Saxons to settle (clearly this did not work!). and have started to plan a story based on the How to Train your Dragon stories, having researched the author, Cressida Cowell.

We have enjoyed this but are looking forward to an extra day to  the weekend next with Bank Holiday Monday. 🙂

Year 6 have had a great week this week. We know it has been tricky for them with lots of SATS preperation going on but we are really proud of the resilience that they are displaying. As a token of their hard work and continued effort, we wanted to reward them with their own year 6 leavers hoody! We hope they like them! It is something they can take home, wear with pride and use as a token to remember the fantastic times that they have had during their education at Albany Junior School.

Welcome back to a new term. It has been a busy week starting new topics. In Humanities, we are now studying the Anglo Saxons and Vikings, linking this to English lessons. Science will be electricity and we will be creating circuits and considering reasons why they may not work. Please remember PE is now on a Tuesday and Wednesday so come to school in PE kit on these days.

It was so lovely to see all the children back after Easter.  On Monday, we had our first swimming session.  Whilst the children didn't spend much time in the pool, it was a really important session determining the pool they would be swimming in.  We have started out new topic - Scotland - and have already had a debate in English about whether or not the Loch Ness Monster is real.  In maths, we have been using a protractor to measure angles which is always a little tricky but they all did really well.
