Year 4 News
Fri 13 Oct 2023This year started by Year 4 welcoming the Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra. From her, we learned lots of fascinating information and played the first ever known board game, mancala, played with tops and whips and learned an Egyptian dance. We also created prototypes of the Ancient Egyptian water moving device- the shaduf. In English, instructions have been written about How to make an ancient Egyptian plaque and How to build a pyramid. We have learned that the people in this civilisation were extremely innovative. Our Reading Parent workshop focussed on the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb- we have really enjoyed this topic. Homework coming in is also great and I am learning lots more information about Egypt, 4,000 plus years ago...

Year 6 News
Fri 06 Oct 2023This week, the children have continued to work really hard during their swimming lessons and it is lovely to see their confidence grow! We also celebrated National Poetry Day, where we found out about different poets and poems before exploring 'The Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carroll. We tried to understand the nonsense vocabulary before creating our own. There were lots of great ideas.

Year 5 News
Fri 06 Oct 2023We have had a lovely week this week. We have been busy finishing our travel guides in English about a place in North America and enjoyed celebrating Poetry Day. We worked together to create a poem based on Neil Gaiman's poem - 'What You Need To Be Warm'. Take a look at some of our finished pieces below. In maths, we have been working on column addition and subtraction. Everyone has worked really hard. We had an exciting assembly today to introduce a new maths club that will be happening after half term. Make sure you check out the flyer and sign up!

Year 4 News
Fri 06 Oct 2023This week, we have started our new English unit of Instructions and have been looking at their features, linking adverbials and thinking about how we made our salt dough plaques and writing instructions about how to make them. It was good to get out of school and visit the church for the harvest festival (and see a wonky cucumber- Mrs Marshall is confused by this as she wasn't there!) In Science, the children were able to complete a couple of experiments to further help them understand the process of digestion.
We have continued to cut our wood for the shaduf models we will be making next week..
Remember Egyptian Day is on Monday- we will be meeting Queen Cleopatra

Year 3 News
Fri 06 Oct 2023Wow what a busy week, with Harvest Festival, Poetry day and our Parent Workshop. In Maths we have continued to learn place value and how we order numbers to 1000 we even tested our skills on ‘Blooket’. In English we have continued to write sentences that will go towards our newspapers reporting on the discovery of fire. On Poetry Day our chairs decided that they had had enough and they went on strike, so Year 3 got together to write poems to ask for the chairs to return from strike and they also performed their poetry. We will post the poems and some of the reactions to this day. Thank you to parents that came to our reading workshop we stepped into the characters footsteps of one of our class books ‘the wild girl’ and the children asked some brilliant questions. We hope you have a restful weekend as next week is our Stone Age Day, we can’t wait to see all the children dressed up and immersed into the Stone Age world.

Year 6 News
Fri 29 Sep 2023Year 6 have had a fantastically Greek week. We have continued our writing unit on Theseus and the Minotaur, and we have rounded off the week with a Greek day, where the children learned lots about the Spartan army, used many different Green artefacts, played Ancient Greek Olympic sports and listened to Greek myths with our outside provider! We are very proud of how the children behaved.

Year 5 News
Fri 29 Sep 2023This week, we have continued writing our travel guides about North America and have learnt about the different human and physical features in the USA. In maths, we have come to the end of our place value unit and are moving on to addition and subtraction. In Science, we explored the solar system and learnt about the differences between each of the planets. It has been lovely hearing the children sing songs ready for our Harvest celebration next week and a little scary to hear Christmas songs being sung in September! Spellings are fully underway in class. Please see the spellings below that the children will be tested on next Friday.

Year 4 News
Fri 29 Sep 2023This week, Year 4 have continued to research the Ancient Egyptians and what their life was like in comparison to our own. We have written Ancient Egyptian stories in English. Despite the showers, the children have been able to get outside for PE, considering how to be a team and developing their hockey skills.
There are some children wearing hooped earrings- these need to be removed as they are not school uniform for health and safety reasons. Studs should be worn, but ideally need to be removed for PE 🙂
Year 4 still need 2 more adults for the Harvest Festival in order for ratios to be accurate. If you are able to accompany us (1pm Tues 3rd October)

Year 3 News
Fri 29 Sep 2023This week we have continued with place value in maths and now working with numbers to 1000. In English we have started our new unit of writing a newspaper based on the Croods discovery of fire and we have worked hard learning all new Rainbow Grammar colours. In Topic we have started to think like Archaeologists and look into things that were found in Scara Brae and what that told us about Stone Age life, we even did a description Independent Write with all our Historical knowledge. In Science, we studied rocks to find different properties. Next week, we have Harvest Festival and our Reading parent workshop, we are looking forward to another busy week.
