  • Grammar Parents' Meeting

Fri 13 Feb 2015 Mr. Robertson
We have booked a Parents' Meeting to help you to help your children with their homework. Jason Wade (English Consultant at Nottingham City Council) and Miss Wing will talk you through some of the terminology and content you will need. The meeting starts at 6pm and will be an hour long. There is a crèche and there will also be refreshments. A letter will come out after half term with more details.
  • Maths and English Parent Meetings

Thu 05 Feb 2015 Mr. Robertson

I often get asked about how parents can help their children with homework. Miss Stones has organised two maths meetings at the start of March alongside Jane Gill, a Maths Consultant. One is at 2.30pm and the other is at 6pm. Further details are due out in the coming days. Please attend if you can.

Miss Wing is organising Grammar meetings for the start of the Summer term. We will keep you posted.

  • New Homework Policy

Thu 22 Jan 2015 Mr. Robertson

You will have noticed that requirements for homework are currently changing. The reasons behind this are so that we have a consistent amount of homework in each year group. Parent Forum looked at the document in November and were generally happy that we were looking to make our expectations clearer.

The policy has not been finalised yet so it is still in draft form. It will go to governors for final approval in the next few weeks. I will share it with you next week once the staff and I have discussed it in more detail.

One of the questions asked was about the different levels of expectation within a class. Different pupils have different abilities so teachers will reflect this by varying the level of challenge.

This update also reflects the level of challenge reflected in the new curriculum for each child. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. More information will follow soon.

  • Maths Coffee Afternoon

Tue 20 Jan 2015 Mr. Robertson

On Wednesday 4th March, Miss Stones is providing the opportunity to meet in an informal way, with a biscuit and a drink, so that you can learn some of the methods and new ideas your child is learning in their lessons.

The meeting starts at 2.30pm and will finish in time for you to collect your children. We will send out a letter nearer the time to confirm details. It will be great for as many of you as possible to attend.

  • Developments at AJS

Sun 18 Jan 2015 Mr. Robertson

If you get the chance please take time to look at some of the new areas on the website. We have added information on the new curriculum, our plans for the British values agenda and also a link to the DFE Performance tables.

You will also notice subtle changes around the website over time. We are going to be expanding how you can access information and make it easier for you to look at homework and to contact your child's teacher. Information will be made available to you in the coming weeks.

You will also notice changes being made to look of the site in the coming weeks. Once governors have given final approval I will share our plans with you in full.

This is a busy term for learning but also for extra curricular activities. These play a vital role in school life and the way we develop the social, moral, spiritual and cultural attitudes of our children. If your child is selected to play in a sports match please try and get to see them. The impact this makes is huge.

  • How we aim to develop British values

Mon 05 Jan 2015 Mr. Robertson
Welcome back. Please look at our section on British values. It gives you a clear picture of where we are currently and how we are developing our curriculum with a clear set of values which will help prepare your child for modern life.

Please note that if you are thinking of applying for a place at Albany Juniors or any school there are new arrangements which have been brought into place from Friday 19th December. The two documents I have uploaded can be found in Key Information on the admissions page. They set out the changes and also give you details of the consultation for 2015-16 which is currently underway.

  • Christmas is nearly here!!

Fri 19 Dec 2014 Mr. Robertson

Its the end of term and we are nearly there. I can hear the children playing party games and keep finding cards at every turn. This term has gone so fast and it feels like I have been here a lot longer than 3 months.

I have inherited a great team of staff. They work hard and the children are at the centre of everything they do. As we enter the holidays please ensure that the children get plenty of rest and that they are re-energised for next term. Some children look more than ready for a break.

It just remains for me to thank all parents, governors and children for their warm welcome and also to wish you all a very merry Christmas and happy new year.

  • Global Learning

Mon 15 Dec 2014 Mr. Robertson
Please take a look at the resources uploaded by Miss Richards. They show very clearly the results of fund raising and work of our parents and children. There are two new links set up which are awaiting new content. Both of these links are aimed and expanding the world view of our children and to promote tolerance and understanding of other cultures. Please look out for the details here over the next few weeks.
  • E-Safety

    Fri 12 Dec 2014 Mr.Robertson
Following our recent training for parents about E-Safety, Ms. Rawson has added some fantastic information for children, parents and carers to this website. The importance of this topic cannot be overestimated in the fast moving world we live in. Protecting our children and ourselves as adults has to be paramount in everything we do on-line.
