Water Safety Assembly - 27.3.17
Tue 28 Mar 2017On Monday 27th March we were visited by Richard and Geraldine from the Canal and Rivers Trust. They spent around 40 minutes working with all of our children identifying the potential dangers when you are near a river or canal. The children were very knowledgeable but also received lots of very positive and useful messages.

Christmas Fayre
Mon 12 Dec 2016Many thanks to you all for your fantastic support at our annual Christmas Fayre. Whether you donated items, baked cakes, sent money in with your child or attended tonight - I can't thank you all enough. We made £720 (the most I have known in my 7 years at Albany!) On behalf of myself, the staff and pupils I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. -
Non-uniform Day
Fri 25 Nov 2016It’s getting to that time of year again!
Our Christmas Fair takes place on Monday 12th December from 2:45-3:25 (for children) 3:25 – 4:30 (for all other visitors). In order to make this a successful event, I write asking for your help!
Every year we run a raffle, make hampers and run a tombola stall. This year we are asking for your donations in a slightly different way. We would appreciate any donations of chocolate – which can be boxes, bars, selection boxes, gifts for children/adults and bottles (anything from shampoo to champagne!) To encourage the children to bring in these items, we are holding a non-uniform day where pupils may wear their own clothes in exchange for one of the following items:-
Chocolate (no nut products please)
Children’s gifts / Gifts for grown-ups
Bottle / Hamper donation.
The non-uniform day will take place on Thursday 1st December. We politely request that pupils do not wear football kit.
Please hand all donations to your class teacher.
As in previous years, there will be a number of stalls including:-tombola, raffle, Santa’s grotto, arts & crafts, home baking and much more.
Further details about the event will follow. If you require further information or would like to run your own stall (stall cost = £5, plus a donation for the raffle) please contact the school office.

World Book Day

Ofsted Letter
Thu 17 Dec 2015Dear Parents and Carers
I am writing to let you know that we had a Monitoring Inspection from Her Majesty’s Inspector, Mrs Dorothy Bathgate on Monday 7th December. The purpose of the visit was to assess the actions and progress the school has made against the targets which were set in our full OFSTED inspection in May 2015. The letter from Mrs Bathgate is attached for you to read. A copy will also be available on our website.
Mrs Bathgate was very impressed with the wealth of evidence which we have for each target to show what we have done and the large amount of progress we have made. In her feedback to Senior Leaders and Governors, Mrs Bathgate commented that normally a school which has been judged as Requires Improvement, could expect to wait up to 7 terms after their inspection before being re-inspected. This could have meant that we would have to wait up to December 2017 before we had a chance to be graded as a good school.
The governors, staff and the HMI feel that we are currently more than capable of providing enough evidence in order to get a good grading now. In recognition of this the HMI has recommended that we are re-inspected much sooner by OFSTED. An early re-inspection gives the school the chance to get back to ‘good’ more quickly than would otherwise have been possible. This has been confirmed by the Regional Director of OFSTED and we are likely to see them in the Summer term.
We are really pleased to get this very positive feedback on the work all staff and governors have put in. Mrs Bathgate spent time with our children also and was full of praise for their excellent behaviour and also the way in which they work in lessons. We see this as a clear vindication of the fact that our recent OFSTED judgement was very harsh on the school.
I hope you will agree this is fantastic news for everyone involved with Albany Junior School. I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone I work with here for the amazing job they continue to do. Before the previous OFSTED, we had all worked hard to improve on the whole school results from May 2014. We focused on every child in every year group and ensured they had what they needed to progress well. Children across the school made excellent progress in 2014-15 due to the continuing great work of everybody at our school. This excellent progress is also continuing this term.

Christmas Fayre 2015
Tue 24 Nov 2015The staff and children will be holding their annual Christmas Fayre, which takes place on Wednesday 9th December 2015, the children may look around from 2:45p.m. open to adults from 3.30pm – 4:45p.m. Visit Santa, have your face painted or shop for your last minute stocking fillers from our visiting stalls. Donations of tombola and raffle prizes will be gratefully received. Edible items for the Cake Stall on the day please.
Remember to label your cake tins/boxes with a name if you wish to collect them from the Cake Stall on the evening of the Christmas Fayre or the following day from the School Office.
Events like the Christmas Fayre always need an army of willing helpers otherwise we have to reduce the amount of stalls we can offer. If you can help set-up and/or help run a stall please leave your details by contacting the School Office. If you wish to run your own stall, tables can be booked via the school office. Tables are £5.00 and must include a raffle donation. Tables can be reserved by contacting the school office.

Harvest Festival
Thu 22 Oct 2015Many thanks for all your contributions to our Harvest Festival this week. We had an amazing amount to share locally and also with Emmanuelle House in Nottingham. They are a charity who support homeless people and people who are isolated in the community. The children sang beautifully and thought in depth with the Revd Peter Huxtable about the reasons why we support those who are less fortunate than us. -
Mixed fortunes for the football team
Sun 11 Oct 2015So far the new look Albany Football team under the leadership of Coaches Tivey and Still has had a mixed start. The first match against local rivals Trowell, was a match which should have been more comfortable than the 3-2 score line suggests. Missed chances and dodgy defending let Trowell back into the game twice. Goals from Aiden (2) and Danny saw us home.
Last Thursday, Bramcote C of E came to Albany. Under new management they were more physical than in the past. Miss Gibson was at the helm for this one and unfortunately missed chances cost us dear. Two first half efforts were enough for a disappointing 2-0 defeat. The team kept going. Danny and Brad kept driving forward with Rogan (who was man of the match). This week some of our squad players will be playing against Southwark Primary in a friendly.

Letter to Parents
Fri 18 Sep 2015Dear Parent and Carers
I am writing to you to share my concern about a report I had this morning from a parent who was deeply shocked. The parent concerned told me that she saw another parent waiting for their child outside the garage on Pasture Road. A young man, on a bike, cycled up to the waiting car. As the young man approached the car, the parent gave him some money and was given a bag which contained a substance, which looked like cannabis.
Now the exchange could well have been entirely innocent. However, the governors and staff are shocked and appalled that potentially parents are purchasing drugs whilst waiting to pick up children from school. Not only is this illegal but it is a terrible example to set for the young people of Albany.
As a school we spend a huge amount of time teaching children about the dangers of drugs and the people who try to sell them. We also spend a lot of time discussing the damage that they can do to a person’s health and also to their relationships with others. Additionally, we teach them that this is against the law and could result in them being prosecuted.
At the moment, we do not know who the parent is. When I find out I will have no hesitation in passing the information to our local PCSO. The staff and governors of Albany Juniors see the safety of our children as our priority and will have no hesitation in taking action.
