  • Teacher Updates 17/9/20

Thu 17 Sep 2020 Miss Frost

Year 3 this week have started their fitness campaign in PE. Their objective is to get fitter and faster, and also to sustain stamina in their running. We hope they will all go for a walk this weekend, and maybe try a do little bit of a run, so that next week we can compare their timings.

    Mrs Wright 3W & Miss Mercer 3M

Year 4 have had a great week getting back into normal lessons and have been working really hard in English and Maths. We also started our topic on Ancient Egypt and in Science we've started looking at the digestive system - 4H have done really well at naming all of the body parts in our digestive system.

    Miss Hyde 4H

In 5M this week, we have started our topic on America and have learned that there are 23 countries in North America.

Linking to this topic, we have now started to read the book ‘Holes’ and are looking forward to discovering what happens to Stanley at Camp Green Lake and why he is there.

In Art, we have investigated sculptures and are looking forward to designing our own next week.

    Mrs Marshall 5M

5W have blown us away with the presentation of their work in their maths and English books this week. They are now researching about Henry Moore ready for creating sculptures.....coming soon!

Mrs Cave & Miss Woolley 5W

It has been a lovely week in year 6.  On Monday, the children were put into their teaching groups and we have made a great start to our English and maths units.  In English, we have been recapping Rainbow Grammar and have been describing odd looking creatures.  We have continued reading the Odyssey and have been learning about its origins and the history of Ancient Greece.

  • Teacher Updates 11/9/20

Fri 11 Sep 2020 Miss Frost

Year 3 have been busy completing lots of tests this week and have impressed us so much with their sensible and mature attitude in lessons. We are so proud that they have all tried your best and we look forward to helping them make lots of progress this year!

    Miss Mercer 3M & Mrs Wright 3W

This week, 4O have tried really hard in their tests and the first independent write. We have also explored some stories from the Bible such as Noah's Ark and David and Goliath and we thought about the key themes and messages .In PSHE, we thought about the textures, smells, tastes, sounds and sights that make us feel calmer and safer. There were some excellent ideas.

    Miss Ottowell 4O

I've been really impressed this week with how hard 4H have been working and their attitude during test week. In the afternoons we've been learning about amazing men and women in the bible.

    Miss Hyde 4H

This week has been filled with assessments so that we know our starting points. The children have all worked really hard and should be proud of themselves. As well as this, we have been considering how to keep our thoughts positive in the current climate and have been doing some work based on the book 'The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse.'  We are hoping to have a fantastic weekend so we are ready for next week when English, Maths and all the other subjects will start again 🙂.

    Mrs Marshall 5M

It has been a busy week in Year 6 with all the testing.  Everyone has worked really hard and tried their best.  Well done Year 6! We have been learning about the Muslim faith in RE and how we can help stay safe mentally and physically in PHSE.

  • Parent Code of Conduct

Fri 11 Sep 2020 Miss Frost

Parents, Carer and Visitor Code of Conduct

At Albany Junior school our vision is that children, staff, governors and parents work in partnership to create an inspirational learning environment where individuals are given the tools to reach their full potential. With this in mind we welcome and encourage parents and carers participation in school life.

We have 5 core values or 5Rs which we expect of our children, parents, staff, governors and other visitors. These are –

    Showing respect

    Building positive relationships

    Developing resilience

Being prepared to take a risk

Taking responsibility for everything we do

The purpose of this code of conduct is to ensure everyone knows what is expected of them so that we can continue to provide a safe and positive school environment for all our children. These expectations clearly reflect our 5Rs.

    Guidance

As well as the guidance set out in the Home School Agreement, which is inside your child's partnership book, we have the following expectations -

    • Show respect for everyone at Albany Juniors by using appropriate language (no swearing or language which others might find offensive) and displaying appropriate behaviour.
    • Show respect for the school environment at all times. Please do not smoke (including e-cigarettes), drop litter, bring pets onto our site or drink alcohol when in school or in the school grounds
    • Reinforce the school’s high expectations of  your children (behaviour, homework and school uniform) whilst in school and on your journey to and from school
    • Parking considerately will ensure we continue to have positive relationships with our neighbours
    • Be respectful of all school staff and our children at all times. If you need to sort an issue do this in an appropriate manner going through the office not side doors
    • Please be respectful when making comments about school or school staff on social media. We usually see these and will always challenge anything we think is inappropriate or untrue.
    • Whilst attending school events, please show respect and help us to maintain good relationships by not taking photos of other people’s children. If this does happen, delete them or keep them for your own use rather than sharing images on social media. We have children in school whose identity we need to protect.

Monitoring of the Code of Conduct

School will display this code of conduct on the website, around school and each parent will receive a copy. Where we feel that our code of conduct has been breached we will challenge adults in the first instance in an informal way. However, further issues may lead to the Headteacher and Governors asking an adult not to come onto the school site. This would be confirmed in writing from the Chair of Governors and Head Teacher.

  • Teacher updates from our first week back!

Mon 07 Sep 2020 Miss Frost

All of the year 3 team are very impressed, at how the Year 3's have settled back into the school routine after such a long time off.

    Miss Mercer & Mrs Morley - 3M

The children in 3W settled in really well to the new routines and I was super proud of how mature and sensible all the children were. They looked amazing in their new uniforms and worked so hard on all the tasks they were given.

    Mrs Wright - 3W

5W have had an amazing start to the term. They have made jigsaw pieces, composed a rap about the 5 Rs, created a class charter and tried out some art-work based on the book by Alain Serres and Aurelia Fronty…’I Have the Right to Be a Child.’

    Mrs Woolley & Mrs Cave - 5W

It has been brilliant to meet all of the children in 4O and everyone has made a fantastic start to being in Year 4. I have been really impressed with their hard work, confidence and enthusiasm.

    Miss Ottowell - 4O

Its been great to see Year 4 excited to be back at school and settling in well to the new school year. We’ve been getting to know each other and setting our targets for what we’d like to achieve over the next year.

    Miss Hyde - 4H

We have had a lovely calm and settled couple of days learning about each other in a new classroom with a new teacher and Teaching Assistant. We have elected School Council representatives and Rights Respecting Schools Ambassadors."

    From Mrs Marshall

"It has been a great start to Year 6.  All the children have settled in well and are desperate to get stuck in.  The new school houses have gone down well and they are all eager to start earning points for their houses.  What a fantastic attitude to begin the year with!"

  • Year 5 Swimming Letter

Wed 02 Sep 2020 Mr. Robertson

    Wednesday 2nd September 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers

We are writing to confirm some more details about Year 5 swimming which will start next Monday 7th September. We would like you to send your child with a swimming kit please. We have discussed the practicalities of asking for the children to come with the kit under their clothes and decided that this would be too uncomfortable and impractical with toileting for some.

All children going swimming will sanitise their hands before they get on the swimming bus, as will the adults travelling with them. We will ask adults travelling with the children to wear masks as is required on public transport. We are, however, only taking with us adults who are employed by the school. Children will then get off the bus and sanitise their hands again on arrival at Bramcote Leisure Centre. They will put their swimming kit on and then take their belongings poolside, swim and then get changed back into their uniform.

Changing rooms and buses will be cleaned down between uses by different schools throughout the day. Children will then sanitise hands again and return to school for the end of the school day. Getting this information to you has taken slightly longer than we envisaged due to delays in getting information from the School Swimming Service. If you have any questions please contact the School Office who will be happy to help.

    Yours sincerely

    Craig Robertson                     Laura Goffin

Head Teacher                         Acting Head of School
