Year 6 have been busy finishing their Greek pots this week and have had their final Spanish lesson before the half term holiday.  In maths, we have been looking at short division and building on what we already know to start giving remainders as fractions and decimals!  In English, we have been looking at levels of formality and how to correctly punctuate speech.  It has been a fantastic term and we are so pleased with how well the children are doing and how hard they are working.  We hope you all have a lovely two weeks off!  See you in November!

This week Year 3 have been completing their first R.E. topic called “Beliefs and questions”. We were really lucky when Mr. Roper came into Year 3 to teach us a lesson all about how the Ten Commandments can be used today to guide us in our lives. It was really great to have someone so knowledgeable in class. We thoroughly enjoyed the lesson. Our next topic after the half term is all about Asia and particularly India, China and Japan. See what you can find out over the holidays.

In the last science lesson we completed a cartoon strip of digestion and it was great to know the parts of our body on our school trip as 4 Year 4 children were mummified and parts of 'their body' (material versions on velcro) were placed 'in' canopic jars. We also got to see two 'real' mummies (as well as an Egyptian mummified cat) and create our own clay shabtis (that go into the afterlife and become our slaves). The rest of the museum was also fascinating and the children all seem to have a different favourite part but it was lovely to see the children so enthusiastic and showing off 'sticky' knowledge from their previous learning in different topics over the last year.

This week in English, we have created a non-chronological report, based on the creatures that we invented last week. We have thought about specific features of the anatomy of our creature and other important information such as their diet and habitat. In our writing, we tried to sound like experts by using technical vocabulary. In Science, we discovered why we have seasons and in topic, we learnt about the different time zones around the world.

This week, the children had to decide whether or not they would like to live in Ancient Egypt and the majority did think that the lack of electronics would be an issue for t hem. And the fact that if you were a slave, the Pharaoh owned you and when they died would kill you so that you could help them into the afterlife. In Maths, a bit of codebreaking was done as we worked out the value of numbers written in numerals. Spanish was more of a challenge this week as Senora Creese asked the children to have a short conversation with a partner in Spanish. We have also checked on our mummifying tomatoes and have found that the control is soft and squidgy and smells of vinegar, whereas the ones with the specially prepared powder have remained firmer.

This week in Science, we have discovered why the shape of the moon changes and what the 8 phases are called. In English, we all created eye catching and informative travel guides, which were linked to our Humanities topic of North America. Some of the destinations included California, Florida, New York, the Grand Canyon and even the Bahamas! We were certainly convinced that we needed to visit.

Year 3 have been working on their fronted adverbials this week in English. If you are not sure, please ask your child to explain. In maths we are still working on place value and number lines up to 1000. In Science, we have been looking at friction on different surfaces and explaining what happens. In topic we are looking at the different countries within the continents. Maybe we could all dream of taking a trip way some day!

This week in Year 4 the children have been excited about designing their own Shaduf and are looking forward to making it in the coming weeks. Science has been exciting as they were able to munch on crackers last week and this week will be pushing bread in a plastic bag to replicate part of the digestion process! The tomatoes are continuing to mummify!

This week in Year 3 we have launched into a really full timetable. We have started our times tables and new handwriting scheme. We are doing lots on Place Value in Maths and putting up to 3 digit numbers on an empty number line. We have started “The Black Hat” in English and are working on fronted adverbials. We are really proud of ourselves for being so hard working and independent.
