This week, we have started a new unit of work about area and perimeter and we have been trying to measure accurately. In English, we have continued writing about Alma and we used different techniques, to build tension and suspense. The beads for our Indus Valley jewellery are ready for painting next week. They look great! Miss Woolley was very impressed with our singing this week. The Christmas songs are sounding beautiful.

This week in Year 6 we have been learning about Remembrance and why it is important.  We have been looking at the famous poem 'In Flanders Fields' and why it means so much to so many people.  The children have been really respectful and demonstrated great maturity when taking part in the two minutes silence on Remembrance Day.  In maths we have been busy consolidating our understanding of factors, multiples, prime, square and cubed numbers.  It has really highlighted how important times tables are.  We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Mercer for coming into school and talking to us about being a driving instructor and letting us explore the modified car.

In RE this week, we have found out about the work of inspirational people such as Mother Theresa and Martin Luther King. We thought about their qualities and why they had such an impact on the lives of so many people. We used Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech and created our own, thinking about our own hopes and dreams. There were so many excellent and thoughtful ideas! After completing our sculptures last week, we have evaluated our work, reflecting on the things that went well and how we could make changes. They look great!

Well done for such a brilliant start to Year 5. Enjoy the half term break.
