Year 3 News
Fri 28 Jun 2024Year 3 have had yet another busy week and have done well in the hot conditions. In English, we have started our next unit which is all about using descriptive sentences to describe their very own factory which is like Willy Wonka’s factory. In Maths, we have been learning about statistics and different ways to represent data. In Science, we have been carrying out an experiment on the impact of moving a torch away from an object and what happens to its shadow. In Art, we have been drawing our outlines of our pop art final piece ready to add lots of colour next week. In Topic, we learnt the process about how chocolate is made right from when the farmers pick the pod, this knowledge supported us in our independent write on Wednesday. Year 6 News
Fri 21 Jun 2024Year 6 have had another busy week. We have continued rehearsing for our leavers' performance and we have now started to plan our DAaRT graduation, to show what we have learnt in these sessions. Wednesday was Arts Day and we created our river landscape in watercolours. We also worked with Miss Woolley for our parent workshop, where we explored rhythm. Thank you to the parents who came and joined in. Yesterday, we all visited Stapleford Library. It was great to see so may children borrowing books.

Year 4 News
Fri 21 Jun 2024In English this week, we have started our Narrative unit inspired by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and have made our plan ready to start writing next week. In Maths, we have moved onto Time, looking at o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. On Wednesday, we really enjoyed art day. In Year 4, we created a collaborative watercolour piece of a local landscape and developed our mark making and doodling skills. In Science, we have observed the effects of the vibrations made by sound using instruments and in Topic, we have looked at urban and rural land and have identified cities within England.

Year 3 News
Fri 21 Jun 2024Year 3 have had another very busy week, the highlight being Art day, where children thoroughly enjoyed learning all about mark making and how you can connect art to music and emotions, they also had an opportunity to draw like Mr. Doodle. The children have also wrote up their Golden ticket invites to Wonka’s chocolate factory in English and these look really spectacular (I certainly wish I was going). In Maths, we have been finishing our topic of shape and even got to make some 3D shapes from a net. In PE, children have been learning more of the events that are in sports day, we hope you can join us on the 15th July. We hope you have a great weekend, here are next weeks spellings.

Year 5 News
Fri 21 Jun 2024We have had a great week this week. We started the week with our Fathers Day breakfast and it was so lovely to see so many get to have some time in school with their loved ones. On Tuesday, we visited Haddon Hall and had an amazing day learning more about the Tudors. All the children got the opportunity to dress up in traditional Tudor clothing and took part in two Tudor dances. As we went around the hall, we learnt all about the different families who have lived there over the years and the significance of the peacock and the wild boar. All the children behaved brilliantly and it was so lovely to receive so many compliments from staff and visitors at the hall during the day to say how polite and well-behaved our children were.
The spellings for this week will be carried over to next week so there will be no new spellings sent home this week. Next Thursday afternoon, we will be visiting Stapleford Library. If your child has a library card at home, please send it with them so that they can take home a book. If they do not yet have a library card, please fill out the application form they came home with and return to school before next week so that we can get a card sorted for them.

Year 6 News
Fri 14 Jun 2024This week, year 6 have been extremely busy! Some of us have been writing different narratives to improve our writing standards and some of us have been doing computing, completing our spreadsheet unit! On Tuesday, we enjoyed our annual visit to the river Erewash to test the river speed as part of our year 6 field work. The children were really enthused and extremely well behaved throughout. In addition to this, we have been working on our DA&RT program which comes to a close today! We will begin preparations for our DA&RT graduation next week. Lastly, Mrs. Woolley has been busy starting up our end-of-year production. The children now have their parts and their scripts to learn their lines. A busy week, which will be followed by another busy week next week. As ever, we are extremely proud of the children and how they are conducting themselves through this busy time.

Year 5 News
Fri 14 Jun 2024This week, we have been busy finishing our myths in English and have been adding and subtracting decimals in maths. In history, we have been learning about the many wives of Henry VIII and placing them on a timeline. In DT, we finally finished our moving toys from last term. They were very tricky but everyone managed to finish! Next week, we have our trip to Haddon Hall. Just a reminder that children will need a packed lunch, drink and a coat. If you have not yet returned the permission slip and donation, please do so ASAP.

Year 4 News
Fri 14 Jun 2024This week in Year 4 we have finished our newspaper reports on Grendel's attack and in maths we have finished our unit on decimals have done really well. Next week, we will start another narrative based on King Arthur and move onto telling the time within mathematics. We were lucky to have a trip to the local library on Thursday, we listened to a couple of stories there and had a chance to look around at all the children's books on offer and most of us took a book out to read at home. In Spanish, we have been learning how to ask how someone is and have practised giving responses with a brief explanation why. We also managed to complete our torches this week and evaluate them. Next week, we have Art day on Wednesday which we are really looking forward to.

Year 3 News
Fri 14 Jun 2024Another busy week, in English, the children are really enjoying looking at Charlie and the Chocolate factory and planning and drafting their own versions of the golden ticket, they even wrote an independent write walking into the factory and describing what they saw. In Maths, children have been really showing off their shapes knowledge. In Science, they explored how light travels and got very excited watching the light appear when water was sprayed. In PE, we have continued to practice sports day events and work hard on our aiming skills in dodgeball. We hope have a nice weekend, here are next weeks spellings.

Football Team News
Fri 07 Jun 2024Yesterday, a group of year 4,5 and 6 boys travelled to Round Hill Primary School for the annual football tournament. Although we did not win, the children played with fantastic spirit and came away with a point in one of the games, which is huge progress from where the boys were at the start of the year. We had stand out performances from all of the boys and we are so proud of their relentlessness on the playing field. The tournament was eventually won by Bramcote C of E with Fairfield Primary School as the runners up.
