Class 3 News
Fri 12 Jul 2024This week has been a very busy one, and the children have aced it. It has been test and quiz week where the children have been able to show off their knowledge across all subjects. I am so very proud of what they have achieved this year and I hope they continue to show that to their new year 4 teachers. They came back very excited after class swap day and I hope they are looking forward to year 4. There will be no spellings this week as it is healthy living week next week, enjoy your weekends.

Year 6 News
Fri 05 Jul 2024As ever, we are so proud of year 6. The way they are conducting themselves at the minutes is really commendable. It is a busy time with lots of responsibility around rehearsals for both the end of year performance and for their DA&RT production, which they have now shown to other children in the school and their DA&RT Officer. The performance was fantastic and all of the children have been presented with a certificate to showcase their hard work during the programme. As well as all of the rehearsals, year 6 have been exploring rivers in the world in more detail as part of their 'Rivers' topic, using atlases to find out map grid references of certain major rivers around the globe.

Year 5 News
Fri 05 Jul 2024We have had a lovely week in Year 5. In maths, we have been converting between different measurements and reading timetables. In English, we have been using the book Treason, which is linked to our Tudor unit, and have explored how different characters may have felt in King Henry VIII's court. Next Wednesday, we will be meeting our new teachers and will spend the day in Year 6. Children are to come to 5H as normal in the morning and will leave from 5H at the end of the day.
On Thursday, we will be having our PE parent workshop. Please make sure you return the slip letting us know if you can attend so that we can plan accordingly. Please see the spellings for next week which will be tested on Friday.

Year 4 News
Fri 05 Jul 2024This week our English lessons have had a grammar focus, we practised writing in the present perfect tense, using subordinate clauses and including prepositional phrases to make our writing more detailed and interesting. We then wrote an advertisement in our Independent Writing lesson on London. We have done a lot of work on money this week and have been working out how to add and subtract with pence and pounds. For our topic lesson this week, we completed a field study of our local area along Pasture Road and Derby Road, looking at housing and businesses and have discussed how and why both roads are similar and different. We had Spanish on Thursday and have done more work on asking how people are in conversation and describing our feelings and the reason why. Next week, it is test week and we will also be having lots of fun quizzes in the afternoons across the wider curriculum subjects. We will be going to the Library again on Thursday afternoon (11th July), so make sure you bring along any books to be returned. If there are any parents that are able to come along with us, please let Mrs Marshall or Mrs Stephenson know as help would be greatly appreciated.

Year 3 News
Fri 05 Jul 2024Wow, this term is flying by, another very busy week in Year 3. In English, children have been thoroughly enjoying writing about their very own factories and I have really enjoyed reading and watching the children’s imaginations get carried away. In Maths, we finished our topic on statistics and have been retrieving all we have learnt over the year. In Art, we have finished our pop art Fairtrade pictures. A highlight was the trip to the library this week, thank you to the parents who came along and got stuck in support the children trying to find books more than 50 years old. We hope the children have a good rest over the weekend. There is no weekly spellings next week as it is test week, but I have set 100 words practice on spelling shed for the children to have a go at.

Governor Report on Girls' Football Tournament
Fri 28 Jun 2024So yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of watching the Albany Girls play football.
They went into the tournament with no previous match practice, a real mix of ages and little idea of the challenge that lay ahead.
With little or no game or club experience between them they went up against players from well established clubs and some having played for academy setups.
And they were brilliant, they played with each other and for each other. No one gave up and no one let anyone down.
There were moments of good passing and link ups, strong challenges and brave blocks. Great bravery, amazing saves and dazzling runs.
I know that some will move on but what a great start. It would be fantastic if they could carry on because with more practice and more games they could stand a real chance of making a semi final next year.
All the girls were a real credit to Albany. The sportsmanship and kindness they showed to teammates and opponents was brilliant.
Super afternoon and well done Albany Girls.

Football Team News
Fri 28 Jun 2024Yesterday, a group of year 4,5 and 6 girls travelled to Round Hill Primary School for the inaugural girls football tournament. Although we did not win, the children played with fantastic spirit and came away with a point in one of the games, which is huge progress as most of the team had never played a football match. We had stand out performances from all of the girls and we are so proud of their relentlessness on the playing field. The tournament was eventually won by Fairfield Primary School with Round Hill finishing as runners up.

Year 6 News
Fri 28 Jun 2024What a week it has been for year 6! We have been doing lots of rehearsals for our DA&RT Graduation and for our end of year performance. The children are really starting to learn their parts and learn the songs that they will be singing. We have also been working on our science, exploring the human body and the effects of keeping a healthily maintained diet. Today even, we looked at the effects on high cholesterol in an experiment outside! We had great fun! The children continue to behave impeccably at this busy time and we could not be more proud of them.

Year 5 News
Fri 28 Jun 2024This week has flown by! In Year 5, we have continued learning all about the Tudors and learnt about the monarchs after Henry VIII. In English, we have been using our reading book 'Treason' to get a better understanding of life as a Tudor and what it would have been like for a child. In art, we have started looking at famous Tudor portraits and why they were important. On Thursday, we had our first trip to Stapleford library where some children were issued with a library card and managed to take a book home.
For swimming on Monday, all children will need to bring loose clothing as well as their normal swimming costume as part of water safety.

Year 4 News
Fri 28 Jun 2024This week, Year 4 have been continuing to learn about the story of King Arthur and writing our own versions of the story. We have learned about John Montague who was the fourth Earl of Sandwich- it is though that the first ever sandwich was made for him. We have also enjoyed practicing some events ready for Sports Day.
