Year 3 News
Fri 19 Sep 2025We are now getting into the normal school routine in year 3. We have now started our first English lesson and our first Maths lesson, with the children making excellent starts in both. Our phonics and spellings groups are now in action each morning and I have included the spelling words we are learning below. The children have coped very well with being inside mid-week due to the torrential rain and luckily P.E lesson went ahead on the sunnier days. In music we examined Space Oddity by David Bowie in detail and revisited place value in maths and started writing expanded noun phrases in English. We had a special guest in on Friday and the children were excited about meeting an athlete and learning about the future lesson they will be doing.

In the afternoons, we started a new PE unit on dance, and have learnt to count in beats and follow choreography in time. In our reading sessions, we have been practising our vocabulary and retrieval skills in texts about the Geography of Egypt and Egyptian Mythology. In Science, as part of our unit on animals including humans, we have been learning about the organs in our digestive systems and their role in digestion. In computing, we have been looking into effective searching when using search engines to try and find specific information. Next week we will begin our English unit on Instructions and Maths lessons on number and place value. You will receive a set of spellings to practise for our weekly spelling test. We also test our times tables on a Friday so keep practising at home too. Have a great weekend.
