Year 6 News
Fri 21 Nov 2025This week, everyone has been working hard in our fractions unit, where we have found equivalent fractions and converted mixed and improper fractions. We have realised how important times tables are for fractions! In English, focusing on the Highwayman, we have identified the figurative language that is used and we explored how the different characters felt. We have also planned a diary entry, based on the events in the poem. In Science, we found out how and why shadows change, using the torches to investigate.
We are all looking forward to our trip to Newstead Abbey on Monday. Have a lovely weekend.

Year 5 News
Fri 21 Nov 2025Another week has flown by in Year 5.
This week in maths, we finished our unit of work on multiplication and division and have moved on to fractions. We have been looking at equivalent fractions to unit fractions and how to find an equivalent fraction. In English, we finished our newspaper reports about the moon landing and the wonderful work completed by the human computers during that time. In Science, we conducted a fantastic experiment all about what makes the best paper helicopter, exploring the relationship between surface area and air resistance.
Year 5 had a little treat this morning and got to watch Holes - the film versions of our focus treading text from last half term. They really enjoyed the film and it was so lovely to hear them celebrate it at the end.
Next week is test week so there will be no spellings to learn. They will be tested on the Year 3/4 words and the Year 5/6 words.

Year 4 News
Fri 21 Nov 2025In Year 4 this week, we have written our Egyptian narratives and so are now moving on to a South African Diary as this is our topic this half term. In our Geography sessions, we looked at climate graphs from different parts of Africa and identified what the climate was like and how they were different in terms of rainfall and temperature. In Art, South African dancers were the inspiration for our drawings- with a focus on showing movement. Multiplication and division is now the focus in Maths so keep learning those times tables.
As next week is test week, there are no spellings set.

Year 3 News
Fri 21 Nov 2025Year 3 have had a really exciting week this week! In the mornings, we have been working hard to understand as much as we can ready for test week next week, so we can show off just how amazing we can be. In the afternoons, we have then had the chance to collect and analyse our own soil samples in science, as well as spending time researching the damage that humans have done to soil. In geography, we have seen our own volcanic explosion and can now explain how volcanoes work. Ask us what we know so we can show this off!

Year 6 News
Fri 14 Nov 2025This week, Year 6 have completed their non-chronological reports, based on the Ancient Olympics. They have used formal and technical vocabulary as well as paragraphs, to organise the information. In Maths, we have been really impressed with the children's work on long division and we have learnt about BODMAS, which affects the order we do calculations in. We have also started our new Science topic, which is all about light. In History, we found out about the different jobs that poor Victorian children would have done. We didn't have many volunteers to sweep chimneys!

Year 5 News
Fri 14 Nov 2025This week has been another great week in year 5. We have really enjoyed conducting scientific experiments and investigating the effects of water and air resistance on different objects. It has been so much fun and we love being little scientists.
In art we e have studied how the Indus Valley people made their jewellery. We looked at a variety of artefacts and then used our skills to make observational drawings using different tones to capture the intricate patterns.
We have continued our multiplication and division topic in maths and worked really hard when squared and cubed numbers. As well as multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 100.
In English we used our rainbow grammar knowledge to add co-ordinating conjunctions and relative clauses to our sentences to up-level them.

Year 4 News
Fri 14 Nov 2025Hello Year 4... The second week back has been busy as always! We have been planning and writing our Marcy Brownstone story, studying area and continued our topic of Africa with South Africa as a focus. This has involved studying different biomes within Africa and learning about Nelson Mandela. Homework has gone out. Additionally, we have had a Mental Health Workshop (NHS led) which works well with our My Happy Mind sessions. Also, Christmas is on its way- rehearsals have started...
Remember to bring Albany Adventure slips in as well as Christmas lunch replies. Posters are up about what will be happening in December each day for Christmas

Year 3 News
Fri 14 Nov 2025This week has been another wonderful week in year 3! The children have enjoyed exploring soil and what it is made up of as well as really starting to understand volcanoes. We can all now use both column addition and column subtraction confidently. We have started writing out final newspapers up in neat and feel very proud of both the content and the presentation of the work.

Year 6 News
Fri 07 Nov 2025It has been lovely to see everyone after the half term break and we have got straight back into our routines and learning. In Maths, we have been learning how to use long division and everyone is trying really hard to master this method. This week in English, we have been developing our understanding of formal language and co-ordinating conjunctions, which we have used in our non-chronological reports. We have started our new History topic, which is all about the Victorians and we found out about some of the key events from this era.

Year 5 News
Fri 07 Nov 2025We have had a fantastic start to the new half term and have settled right back into school life. In English we are continuing our unit of work based on the book 'Hidden Figures'. We look forward to writing a newspaper report about this next week. While looking at the book we have had some really nice discussions about our British Values and Protected Characteristics. In our maths lessons, we have been looking at multiples, factors and prime numbers. This is a tricky topic but we have all been working really hard in our lessons.
Our new topic this half term is 'The Indus Valley Civilisation'. How exciting! We can't wait to delve into the past and use our skills as historians to find out about this marvelous civilisation. We have also started a new topic in science. This half term we are looking at forces. This week we investigated the different types of forces and the effects they have on objects. We also conducted our first experiment for this topic. We collected objects around the classroom and measured their mass in g/kg and their weight in newtons.
