This week has been a very busy week! Year 3 have completed their latest RE unit, exploring the different reasons why people prey with special emphasis on our British Values and Protected Characteristics. We have also completed and evaluated our very own Roman Shields. The children are very proud of their creations. As ever, we are really happy to say that the year 3s have behaved impeccably. We are all absolutely ready for a break! Stay safe and enjoy your week off.

On Wednesday, we had a fantastic Norman Day in school.  In the morning, we were told all about the many weapons a Norman soldier would have had and got the opportunity to hold them and try on Norman helmets.  We were all really surprised how heavy the chainmail was and couldn't believe the Normans would have been able to fight under the weight of it.  In the afternoon, we played a game called Merels which was very tricky and you had to be very strategic.  We also had a go at solving Norman riddles and learnt about the tactics the Normans used to help them win the Battle of Hastings.

Please see below the spellings for next week.

Fri 07 Feb 2025 Miss Ottowell

This week, we started a new English unit, a balanced argument, based on Alan Turing and the cracking of the Enigma code. We have spent time researching this so that we can take part in a debate next week.

In Maths, we have continued our work on algebra. We have substituted numbers to solve equations and we have learnt how to find the value of letters in an equation too.

We have started to develop our own sequences in PE, combining all the skills we have learnt with apparatus. Our Science work got us thinking about plants and how they can be classified. We also learnt about different types of plants and trees.

    Have a great weekend.

Fri 07 Feb 2025 Mrs Marshall & Miss Stepheneson

This week, Year 4 have learned more about the mountaineer Edmund Hillary and have planned a biography about him ready to write next week. Additionally, we have been learning to use water colours effectively to create a mountain painting in the style of Nicholas Roerich. Science was fun as we created our own water cycle and made a rain cloud in a jar. Remember, on Monday there is swimming. Additionally, on Wednesday, we go to Clip n Climb- children need to come in PE kits and bring a packed lunch if one has not been requested from school. Have a great weekend.

This week, year 3 have been extremely busy with all things Roman. We have started making our Roman shields and we will be completing these next week! As well as this, the children have been explaining how to make their Roman shields, writing our own instructions to help us along with the process. We are super excited for our last week of term, which will be just as action packed. As ever, we are super proud of all the children in year 3 as they continue to astound us with their knowledge and resilience. Have a great weekend!

Fri 31 Jan 2025 Miss Hubert & Mr Harding

This week we have been focusing on playscripts in English and have been performing scenes from Snow White.  It was lovely to see children embracing their dramatic side.  After performing different scripts, we have been looking at the legend of Robin Hood and have begun writing our own playscripts.  In maths, we have moved on to decimals, looking at decimal place value and the relationship between fractions and decimals.  On Thursday, we welcomed the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) for a resilience workshop.  We were given different strategies to develop our resilience and some positive affirmations.  In DT, we have started sewing our Norman Purses.  This can be a tricky unit and one that can be quite frustrating at times.  The resilience workshop is going to come in very handy!

Thank you to those parents who have paid for the Norman workshop.  Without your contributions, we would not be able to have these opportunities.  The workshop will take place next Wednesday.

Please see the spellings for next week below.  We will be focusing on the 9 times table next week.

Fri 31 Jan 2025 Mrs Marshall & Miss Stepheneson

This week, we have completed out Nigel Vardy newspaper reports and have started to research the life of Edmund Hilary, who was the first we know of to successfully summit Mount Everest. In Humanities, we have investigated tourism in mountain regions and in Science we investigated which materials melted quicker than others.

    Remember, swimming on Monday 🙂

Fri 31 Jan 2025 Miss Ottowell

This week, Year 6 have started to learn about algebra, thinking about how we can create expressions using letters and numbers. We have also learnt that there is no multiplication symbol.

In History, we found out how and why Jewish people were discriminated against during the Holocaust. Everyone found it hard to believe that people were treated in this way just because of their religion. It's a difficult topic to talk about but the children have responded thoughtfully and maturely.

We also had a resilience workshop, where the children thought about times when they had been resilient. They also created an affirmation to help them.

Thank you to those parents who joined us for our parent workshop.

    Have a great weekend

This week, year 3 have a great week starting their new English unit- a set of instructions to help us make our Roman Shields (A huge thankyou goes out to those who have sent cardboard in!) We have also enjoyed continuing with our Spanish work and in PE, we have been learning more about the invasion games of Tag Rugby and Netball! The children need a well-deserved rest over the weekend.

Fri 24 Jan 2025 Miss Ottowell

This week, Year 6 have started a new English unit on biographies. We will be writing one about Anne Frank so we carried out research about her life and found out lots of interesting facts. The children are really enjoying learning about her and the struggles she faced.

Linked to our WW2 topic, some of the children have been finding out about relatives who fought in the war. It has been brilliant to see pictures, medals and even books that have been published.

In Maths, we have continued our work on ratio. We can use the ratio symbols to compare different amounts and we can use a ratio to work out a total amount or how much each group would get.

Next week, we have our Science parent workshop. It would be lovely to see you.

    Have a great weekend.
