Fri 16 Jun 2023 Miss S Ottowell & Mr Tivey

This week, we have continued to develop our skills in tennis during our sessions with Mr Riley. In Science, we have been learning about the organs in our body and their functions. We have also discovered how blood flows through veins and arteries and why this happens. We all found our pulse (eventually) and compared our heart rate when resting and after exercise. Again, there has been some brilliant writing this week, based on Hulk and some of the children have been exploring how to use coding.

This week Year 4 learned about the British Isles and the difference between these, Great Britain and the United Kingdom. We located the capital cities on a map. King Arthur was a legendary king from this location and we have started to read the stories, learning about the different characters in his life. In Science, Sound is our topic and the children now know vibrations cause it and that a medium- air (gas), liquid or a solid- is needed.

It has been a lovely start to the new term.  This week, we have started our new topic about the Tudors.  Everyone seems really excited about it and are looking forward to the trip to Wollaton Hall later in the term.  We have started a new DT unit - moving toys - where we have been learning about cam mechanisms.  In English, we have been learning about William Shakespeare and the children are working on writing a biograpahy about him.  We will be swimming again on Monday but also doing PE on Thursday in preparation for sports day.  We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Fri 09 Jun 2023 Mr Tivey & Miss Ottowell

Year 6 have been extremely busy this week. Aside from doing lots of writing, we have also been completing our latest computing unit on coding, which will be continued into next week. As well as this, today, year 6 has been over to the infant school to visit the reception and year 1 children for their art day. They have been using oil pastals to recreate a giant version of the Jungle and the Tiger, which was painted by Henri Rousseau. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and lots of the year 6's were fantastic in supporting the younger children.

Fri 09 Jun 2023 Miss Tilley & Mrs Cave

Year 3 have settled back into routine fast, and the first week has already flown by. We finished our time topic in Maths and have started a new topic of ‘shape’, where we have been testing the angles of everything in our classrooms. In English we have started to learn all about Italy and persuasive texts. We also wrote an independent write on the eruption of Vesuvius, we agreed that we are glad we don’t live near a volcano! We are enjoying our new topic of Italy and tourist hopping the gorgeous country. Hope you have a lovely weekend in the sun, don’t forget to keep practicing times-tables.

Welcome back after the half term break. This week, we have completed previous topics on the Anglo Saxons and Vikings. We have written a newspaper report about Grendal's attacks and how Beowulf came to the rescue. In Science, we focussed on Tesla and his electrical research that paved the way for much of the technology we have today and inspired the name of the Tesla car.

PE will continue to be on Tuesday and Wednesdays.

  • Football Tournament 8th June 2023

    Fri 09 Jun 2023 L Tivey

Yesterday, the Year 5,6 football team travelled to Bramcote College to take part in our first football tournament in 5 years. After losing our first two games 2-0 and 1-0, the team rallied together to stay unbeaten for the rest of the afternoon, drawing 0-0 with John Clifford and Bramcote Hills but beating Bispham Drive 1-0 with a beautifully curled effort by Cohen Hudson. Unfortunately, we did not receive enough points to reach the semi-finals but we did finish 4th in our league of 6.

Overall, the team enjoyed a sunny afternoon and played some fantastic football, battling extremely hard against some very good teams. We are really proud of the way they played and conducted themselves throughout the afternoon.
