Fri 10 May 2024 Mr Tivey & Miss Ottowell

It’s SATs week next week and we all want to wish our Year 6 pupils good luck and all the best for the week.  We know that they will give them their best shot. We’ll never stop cheering them on and helping them in every way that we can. The very best of luck. We cannot wait to celebrate the children afterwards with our End of SATs party lunch on Friday, which ALL year groups are invited to.

Fri 10 May 2024 Miss Hubert

It has been so lovely to have such lovely weather this week - especially with the bank holiday at the start.  Yesterday, Year 5 had a Scottish day in school where they learnt about different Scottish traditions and the history behind tartan.  They also got to taste ty of different foods.  Such as: square sausage, haggis, black pudding, fruit pudding, mac and cheese pie, scotch pie, burnt loaf, potato cakes and teacakes.  I'm not sure the haggis went down well but they certainly enjoyed the tablet.  In the afternoon, they took part in Highland games where they competed as clans in a number of events.

Please see the spellings below for next week and they will be focusing on the 12 times table.

Fri 10 May 2024 Mrs Marshall & Miss Stepheneson

This week has been another busy one despite it being a four day week. We have continued to learn about the Vikings attacking the Anglo-Saxons on Lindisfarne and have also studied an Anglo Saxon king, who was buried in his ship with all his important and precious belongings with him, helping us to understand more about what life was like in these times. In Science, the children were extremely excited to make circuits and make bulbs light up and buzzer sound.

Remember to read for Starbook and that it's Freezer Friday every week on a Friday- ice creams and lollies for a pound.

Year 3 have managed to squeeze everything into a very short but busy week. This week, we have finished our topic in Maths of money and started time. In English we have been writing drafts of our brochures advertising Asia, I am so impressed by the vocabulary that the children have been coming out with. In Topic, we compared Japan and England and what sort of differences we have. In Science, we looked at how magnets attract and repel each other with the poles. We hope you have a restful weekend, and here are next weeks spellings.

Year 6 have had another brilliant week this week. As we continue to prepare for SATS, we become increasingly amazed at their resilience and to help us along with this, we have started some 'My Happy Mind' sessions regarding getting our children into a positive head space before their tests arrive. We are so proud of their efforts. Aside from SATs preparations, we have been very busy bettering our dribbling skills in hockey and we have also been using our Spanish work from last week - now speaking in full sentences to explain what our family members are like. We hope the children have a well deserved rest over the bank holiday weekend. We shall see all the children on Tuesday!

This week has flown by! In English, we have been focusing on the play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare.  In maths, we have been exploring angles and calculating missing angles in a straight line and within shapes.  On Thursday, we took part in a live event with a NASA engineer who contributed to the Mars Exploration Rover Mission.  The children learnt about the mission and were able to ask questions.  In science, we conducted an experiment to see how much salt and sugar could be dissolved in water before making a saturated solution.
