Y6 children and staff really enjoyed the trip to Twycross Zoo. It was amazing to get so close to the animals. The monkeys were so funny - playing and showing off and one even stuck its tongue out at us! I think one of our new favourite animals is the pygmy marmoset!

During the rest of the week, we have been completing our assessments. Everyone has worked really hard and we can see that all of our revision is paying off. Well done everyone.

Enjoy Hagg Farm next week. We can't wait to hear all about your adventures. For those who are staying in school, we will be working on a Titanic themed project.

    Fri 17 Mar 2023 Mrs R Marshall

The children have worked hard this week on their assessments for Maths, Reading, Spelling and Grammar and scores will be ready to share at parents evening. Our visit to Twycross made all the hard work worth it though - the Snow Leopard was certainly pleased to see us, bounding down through its enclosure and jumping up at the glass, seemingly licking one of the children! The giraffes also were a firm favourite.

Next week Miss Weatherall will be teaching in 4M as Mrs Marshall joins the Year 6s at Hagg Farm.

Year 3 have had a busy week doing lots of zoo related activities and learning more about how fair it is for workers in the production of chocolate. We have also been investigating the relationship between different forms of chocolate and how it looks like different stages of the rock cycle. We are really looking forward to our trip next week. This week had an exciting start with the first swimming session going ahead 🙂 There will be three more sessions. We have continued to study the Mayans and enjoyed inviting parents in to join us for a topic lesson. Additionally, we have started to research Twycross Zoo and the animals that are there ahead of our visit next week.

What a fantastic week we have had getting ready for our great Albany Adventure to Twycross Zoo!  On Tuesday, news broke that a Bengal tiger had escaped from the zoo and made its way in to the school building!  We have been writing newspaper articles in English to report the events.  In maths, we have been designing our own zoos, using our work on area to create different animal enclosures.  Next week, head over to our class pages to look at our finished work.  We had to stick to a budget, calculating how much it would cost to house different animals and what it would cost to feed them every week.  The week came to an end with everyone dressing up as either a zoo animal or their favourite animal.  Check out the group shot.

This week, Y6 visited the National Holocaust Centre. We learnt more about the Holocaust and what life was like for Jewish people before and during WW2, following 'Leo's journey' and listening to an interview with a survivor, who came to England on Kinder transport. The children were polite and respectful and they answered lots of questions. In maths, we have started a zoo-themed project, which will result in the children designing their own zoo! Everyone is really looking forward to our trip next week.

It has been a busty week in Year 5.  We have been learning about perimeter in maths, calculating missing measurements of shapes and their perimeter.  In English, we have been writing our non-chronological reports about rainforests and learning about how important they are to the world.  On Thursday, it was World Book Day and everyone made a book about an animal that can be found in a zoo.  Finding out different facts about animals around the world has been fascinating.  Next week, we are looking going to be focusing even more around zoos as we prepare for our next Albany Adventure to Twycross Zoo!

We had an extremely exciting start to our week when Simon, an explorer who has visited jungles, came and shared a stupendous day, covering the enter topic of the Mayans. We learned many interesting facts such as they believed longheads, long noses and being cross eyed was beautiful! We have continued to learn more about their cities and have been reading 'The Chocolate Tree which is an ancient Mayan myth, focussing on some of their Gods.

In Science we have been grouping animals in Carroll diagram and Venn diagrams accoring to their features.

Remember on Monday afternoon we are swimming- please remember your swimming kit- swimming costume (one piece)/ tight trunks (not baggy long ones!) and a towel.
