Year 4 News

This week, Year 4 have started our new English unit on writing Instructions to create an ancient Egyptian-inspired cartouche after making their own in the first week. So far, we have looked at the features of instructions, using time conjunctions, imperative verbs, expanded noun phrases and precise adjectives and adverbs, which we will include when we start writing the instructions next week. In Maths, we have started our place value topic and have been representing, partitioning and using a number line with numbers to 1,000 and beyond. In Topic, we have been looking at how the ancient Egyptians wrote using hieroglyphs. We researched some facts about them and learnt about the Rosetta stone. We then made our own bookmark using papyrus paper and wrote on it using hieroglyphs. In Science, we looked at how the enzymes in our saliva break down food chemically with a cracker experiment! In PE, we have been continuing to work on the choreography for our dance and have been developing our skills in Tennis. Below are the spellings to practise for next Friday’s spelling test. Remember to read at least 3 times a week for your Starbooks and practise your times tables too! Have a great weekend.
