We are super proud of how hard the children have tried on their assesments during test week.  As we get closer to December and the Christmas performance, we are busy learning songs and lines.  We are really looking forward to performing to our parents and carers.

In Science, we have been learning about gravity and the difference between mass and weight and in history, we have been researching life in the Indus Valley.   Next week is going to be super exciting as it will be the Christmas fair! We can't wait to see you all there!

Year 6 have had a fantastic week. Yes! even test week can be fantastic. They have still enjoyed their afternoon of swimming and they have also started their next unit of writing, where they have been introduced to the narrative poem 'The Highwayman'. The children have also continued studying the Victorian period and have delved deeper into certain famous Victorian individuals, such as Lord Shaftsbury. The children are all really excited for their trip next week!

Yesterday, The Albany Junior School Boys Football Team played in a friendly against Chetwynd Spencer Academy. After a hard-fought 40 minutes, Chetwynd ended up victorious. The boys, although disappointed at losing, are staying positive and they will continue to work extremely hard in training in order make improvements on the pitch. A special shout out goes out to Nick, who played in his first ever football match and made some truly fantastic saves in goal! We are so proud of the boys, who will never give up, whatever the result.

This week has been assessment week and we have worked really hard in them.

In Science, we have learnt that different animals have different teeth belonging to specific herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. In PE, we were introduced to the side slingshot throw within dodgeball, which is quite tricky, so we will continue to develop this in following weeks. We have also been introduced to the days of the week in Spanish, so that we will be able to say the date in full. In English, we have practised our Rainbow Grammar knowledge, writing sentences with fronted adverbials and subordinate clauses to describe a scene in South Africa. In our maths lessons, we have discovered how the 3, 6 and 9 times tables are linked and have developed our fluency with multiplication and division facts with the 7 times table.

We finished this week with an art lesson (sketching a face) and our singing lesson where we are preparing for our Christmas performance. Remember to keep practising the songs at home with your lyrics booklet as the performance is not that far away now.

Have a great weekend from the Year 4 team!

We finally finished our non-chronological reports about the Ancient Greek Olympics, which included information about the events and important people. As part of our multiplication and division unit within maths, we have been looking at multiples, writing division and multiplication facts for the 3, 6 and 9 times table and have explored the connections between them. Continuing on our unit on teeth and digestion, this week we have looked at the different types of teeth and the different functions they have. In art, we have explored movement with figures and have done this through observing African dancers, using lines to show movement. On Thursday we tried our hands at karate and had a great session practising balance and control of our bodies.

Fri 10 Nov 2023 Mr Tivey

Yesterday, Albany Junior Boys football team played Roundhill Primary School. Unfortunately, we played a fantastic team and the end result was not what we had hoped for. All of the children that played gave everything they had and they never once gave in or let their heads drop. They played with a fantastic attitude and they always had smiles on their faces. Next week, we host Trowell C of E Primary School in our second league game.
