This week, the children who have been in school have been learning all about the Titanic. We have been investigating what caused the disaster and who might have been to blame. There has been some excellent art work produced too.

This week we have finished our non-chronological reports on model aeroplanes, which has linked to our history topic on the Ancient Egyptians. In maths, we have been working on using the written methods for addition and subtraction with exchanges. We have also finished making and evaluating  our shadufs and have enjoyed making our own life-size Egyptian mummies and Pharaoh masks! We hope you all have a lovely half term.

This week, we have been finishing our money boxes in DT and they look fantastic.  In PE, we worked on improving our fitness through continuous movement and challenged ourselves to improve and beat our previous times.  It has been a fantastic first half term and are already looking forward to Autumn 2 and the run up to Christmas.  There are a lot of exciting things coming up!

Fri 20 Oct 2023 Miss Tilley

Year 3 have had a calmer week this week, we have added and subtracted crossing over 10s and 100s. In English, we have finished writing our Croods newspapers reporting on the discovery of fire and have learnt that it was not a baby sun. In Topic, we have found out more about the Celts and started to link to the Romans, which we will be learning about in the spring term. In Science, we have started to learn about the inside of the earth and where magma comes from, looking at pictures from Miss Tilley’s adventures on an active volcano. Over the holiday’s children are to practice their 100 words and to also practice times-tables on either TT Rockstars or the white and green book. New homework grids will be coming out today. We hope you all have a restful half term and look forward to seeing you after the holiday.

Fri 13 Oct 2023 Miss S Ottowell & Mr Tivey

We have had a great week in year 6. We have started our brand-new unit of writing, researching, in depth, the Ancient Greek Olympic games and some of the year 6s will be looking at how they were different to our modern-day Olympics. The year 6 girls, who we were so proud of for coming forward and asking us to start a girls' football team, have had their first training session with Mr. Riley and it went really well. A lot of year 6 are looking forward to the weekend because it is one step closer to their Hagg Farm residential. They are struggling to contain the excitement!

Fri 13 Oct 2023 Miss Tilley

Another really busy week in Year 3 and I am sure the highlight for most has been our Stone Age Day, Thank you to all the staff and children for getting stuck in.  The children learnt how to make some shelters, learnt how to create fire using flint and steel similar to the stone age people would have. They also got to draw on some cave walls, make some little models and dig for fossils. They even got to listen to stories around a fire in Mrs Cave’s Cave and write their own stories using pictures, just like the stone age people did. In between all the fun it was brilliant to see the children make so many links between all their learning in class and what they were doing, pictures will go up on the class page. We have also started planning our newspapers using all our fabulous work from the past few weeks in English. And in Maths we have started our new topic of addition and subtraction. Hope you have a lovely weekend whatever you may be up to. Don’t forget times tables and spellings practice.

This week, we have been developing our woodwork skills and have been chopping the wood for our money boxes.  After a few measuring mishaps, all the children chopped their wood and will be building their box next week.  On Wednesday, we welcomed parents into the classroom for our reading workshop where we looked at the Warden character in Holes.  It was fantastic to see so many parents and we really appreciate you coming in.  The smile on their faces when you came into the room was priceless.

In English, we really enjoyed making our own travel advert for a location in America.  We used Adobe Express to create a video using voice recordings, music, photos and persuasive devices to try and encourage people to visit the place we researched.  In music, we composed our own call and response song on the recorder.

    Fri 13 Oct 2023 Mrs R Marshall & Miss S Stevenson

This year started by Year 4 welcoming the Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra. From her, we learned lots of fascinating information and played the first ever known board game, mancala, played with tops and whips and learned an Egyptian dance. We also created prototypes of the Ancient Egyptian water moving device- the shaduf. In English, instructions have been written about How to make an ancient Egyptian plaque and How to build a pyramid. We have learned that the people in this civilisation were extremely innovative. Our Reading Parent workshop focussed on the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb- we have really enjoyed this topic. Homework coming in is also great and I am learning lots more information about Egypt, 4,000 plus years ago...
