Fri 30 Jun 2023 Miss S Ottowell & Mr Tivey

This week, some of the children spent 2 days at Friesland as part of their transition. Other visits will take place next week. In Science, we explored how cholesterol affects the blood flow in our arteries, using pipes, water, play dough and sponge. We found out how to get more good cholesterol in our diets too. We continued our sports day preparation with the long distance run, which required a lot of stamina during the 5 laps of the school grounds.

We're looking forward to our river walk and our visit to the new cycle track on Monday.

In Year 5 this week we have been finishing our newspaper reports detailing the events of King Duncan’s murder from our reading of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. In Maths, we have been looking at convert units, both metric, imperial and units of time. We have also been working on making our cams in DT, putting them together to see our designs come to life and have been practising for our sports day now that we know what our events will be. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

This week, we completed our Arthurian legend and created a book, before moving on to learn about another British traditional story. This time, the story Beddgelert was set in Snowdonia, Wales where a dog becomes a hero for rescuing Prince Llewllyn's, his master, baby from a vicious wolf. You can now visit Beddgelert, which is a small village near England and Wales' highest mountain, Snowdon.

In Topic, we have used a map to label cities in England and in Science we have learned about the structure of the ear and how sound reaches the brain.

The next few weeks are going to be busy with lots of different events to look forward to. Next week, we will be walking up to the Cycle Hub for the grand opening. We will leave school at 1pm to be there for 1.30pm.

Fri 30 Jun 2023 Mrs Cave and Miss Tilley

Year 3 have had such an exciting week. We have written up in neat a brochure to advertise a holiday to Italy. We definitely want to go now! In Maths we have been enjoying the topic of ‘Statistics’ and collecting and representing data from the class. It has also been lovely to see our sunflowers grow to finish our topic of ‘Plants’ in Science, and we hope that they are continuing to grow with the right amount of: Light, Water, space and Nutrients. In music, the children are really enjoying learning the recorder and they have already started to master 4 different notes. Next week is assessment week but in Year 3 we still have plenty planned, with starting our new Science topic ‘Animals including Humans’ and we get to practice different dough recipes for our pizzas. We hope you have a lovely weekend.

    Fri 23 Jun 2023

It was great to see so many parents and other family members at the Father's Day breakfast on Monday. Throughout the week, we have been working on our DAaRT graduation as well as our leavers' performance. Some of the children have also created brilliant SATs survival guides ready to share with the new Y6s. Half of the children took part in a transition activity in the hall, where they were able to create something out of clay, that linked to a memory of Albany. It was lovely to hear the children's thoughts about moving to secondary school. The other half will complete the activity next week.

We have had a brilliant week in Year 5.  We have been exploring Shakespear's Macbeth and writing a letter from Macbeth's point of view when he met the three witches.  In maths, we have been looking at negative numbers and identifying missing number in a sequence.  On Thursday, we went to Wollaton Hall as part of our Tudor unit.  We learnt about what life would have been like in a Tudor kitchen and how valuable spices were during the Tudor times.  We all then made a piece of our own 'treasure' that represented a Tudor Pomander which was used to help block out bad smells.  We also learnt about Tudor textiles and had a go at designing and making our own dresses.  Thanks to the beautiful weather, we had a lovely picnic on the grass at the back of Wollaton Hall.  It was a brilliant day and all the children were fantastic!

This week has been another busy one with us learning about the British Isles in English, Topic and Reading. We have written our own versions of a King Arthur legend, identified counties and have discovered different landmarks. A job we also had to do was sort Sports Day competitions so each child should know what their activities are. This is not for a few weeks and more information from school will follow but if your child can come to school in their PE kit with a coloured T shirt matching their House colour (your child should know this). Don't worry if not, we have bibs they can wear.

In Year 5 this week we have finished our maths unit on decimals and will be looking at negative numbers for next week. In English, we finished our biographies on William Shakespeare and will be linking our future work to Shakespeare’s Macbeth. We leant about Henry VIII and his 6 wives within Topic and the reasons why he created the Church of England and married so many times.  In DT we have learnt all about cams, the movements different shaped cams can create when making a moving toy and have used this knowledge to design and label our own cam toy, which we will make in a few weeks time. Have a great weekend!
