  • Year 3 News

    Mon 25 Jul 2022

Year three have had a pretty hot start to the week but have really kept cool under the canopy with water and Lego. We have completed a Science topic this week on bones and muscles. We have completed our PSHE lessons on Changing me and the children were so mature and respectful. They asked lots of questions. They have had a go at archery today and I can see a couple of budding Robin Hoods! They can take home their books tomorrow. Have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday.

What a week! The extreme temperatures have certainly meant a strange week for all. We tried our best to stay as cool as possible and hydrated, enjoying the outside for short periods of time in the shade. We have been able to have fun outside though when Grace Walters, a female footballer from Nottingham Forest Football Club worked with the children on their dribbling and tackling. In the afternoon, Year 4 invited parents to come in and support their children making their sandwiches and completing a marketing project with posters and packaging designs. Nerf Wars and Archery were also enjoyed... only a few days left before a well-earned holiday.

Year 3 have had a really great week. They have been on a field trip to Stapleford for their current Geography topic and have mapped the kinds of shops that Stapleford has. While we were out on the walk, the children were incredibly well behaved and many people stopped to say to us how lovely it was to see the children in the town and how well behaved they were. When they all got back to school they analysed their findings and then had 12 parents come to a parent workshop in their classroom. The parents worked with the children to create graphs and data from the walk. Because the weather was so nice, they were able to work in the Year 3 outdoor area. Thanks again for the continued support of the Year 3 parents.

This week has been another busy week. We studied OS maps on Monday, comparing Windemere to Skegness and  explored which materials muffled sounds best, using a data logger to measure the decibals. We have also been able to spend a day in the classes for next year, meeting our new teachers.

This week, the children have been working hard completing their summer assessments- some have claimed they have enjoyed them! We also enjoyed discussing sandwiches and what their favourite bread and fillings were. We have also been exploring a British map in order to locate cities. We are looking forward to some exciting events next week such as the School Disco.

In English, we finallly created our persuasive leaflets, based on Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London after learning lots of different skills. They were eye catching and very informative. In Science, we planned an investigation, to find out which material will make the best thermal insulator.

The week ended with our sleepover. 32 children stayed for an evening of fun and games. They all really enjoyed the adventure, returning home on Saturday morning. Thank you to Mr Still and Mr Granger, who stayed too.

Mon 04 Jul 2022 Miss Hubert

It was so lovely to see so many Year 6 parents come and join us for the parent workshop.  We were super impressed with the quality of everyone's water colour painting skills.  The rest of this week has been very quiet as some of our children have been on their transition visits to their future secondary schools.  We have missed them but know they will have had a fantastic time.  In science, we have continued our work on the human body and have been looking at how important the heart is.  In RE, we have been exploring what it is like to experience poverty and what can be done to help.

Mon 04 Jul 2022 Mrs Marshall

This week, year 4 have been writing poetry in English in a number of different styles. We have learned more about Great Britain and the different counties and have started to learn about the Earl of Sandwich. In Science, we were able to make lots of noise banging a drum with rice on the top, a cymbal and twanging elastic bands in order to see how sound is created.
