Noticeboard

This week year 6 have had a fantastic week completing our writing unit on Alan Turing. We have also concentrated on the Easter story in our RE sessions, which have yielded some brilliant discussions. To complete the week, year 6 built their moving vehicles using a range of skills and equipment. We will be finishing them off in the last week of term. The children are looking forward to the last week of term and a well-deserved break! 

WOW! What a week we have had.  On Monday, we went to the Tropical Butterfly House in Sheffield and had a fantastic time.  We were incredibly lucky with the weather and got to see a range of different animals.  For example: giant tortoises, lemurs, meerkats, wallabies, otters, tamarins macaws and butterflies.  In the butterfly house, we had a talk from one of the rangers all about the tropical environment and learnt about how different animals use a range of senses to help them survive.  Some children even held a giant cockroach! 

On Wednesday, some children went in to Nottingham to meet some of the Nottingham Panthers and had a go at ice-skating. The children who stayed in school took part in a number of Easter themed activities and special Spanish and Music sessions.  Today, we had our Easter service at St Helens Church and learnt all about this special time of year.  Next week, we have just three days in school before we break up for the holiday.

This week has been a very busy and exciting one. We loved our trip to see and skate with the panthers on Wednesday, it was a fantastic experience and we had the opportunity to speak to them and ask them lots of questions. On Friday, we had our Easter church visit at St Helens where we sang songs and took part in Easter-related activities to celebrate. We have now finished our adverts for our Mayan chocolate and have started a new unit in maths on Length and Perimeter, which we will continue into next term. We had our last Spanish lesson on Thursday and looked at masculine and feminine agreement with nouns and adjectives, drawing upon our colours. In Science, we have been classifying animals based upon the features of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish. In Topic, we have looked into what daily life was life for the Mayan civilisation. We are looking forward to yet another busy and exciting week next week with our Magna Albany Adventure and Sports WOW day!

Year 3 have certainly had a week to remember, in between our usual lessons we have also enjoyed not 1 but 2 trips. Buxton was really a day to remember the children had a really brilliant day, smiling from ear to ear as they explored the Roman impact on Buxton and the history behind the town. With the Easter church service as well today, we hope the children have a really restful weekend. Here are some photos from Buxton and also spellings for after Easter.

It was a different week this week with it being test week. All the children worked really hard and tried their best. In art, we created a print in the style of Georgia O'Keeffe and started applying the wax to the silk for our batiks. Next week, we have our trip to the Tropical Butterfly House in Sheffield and the Easter service at St Helens Church. 

Year 6 have had a brilliant week finalising our unit of English work, writing a balanced argument based on Alan Turing during the second world war. In Maths, we have been finding the area and perimeter of compound shapes. As it was test week, the children had their final chance before SATS to see how much progress they have made and we can say that we are extremely proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the week. We are looking forward to our last couple of weeks leading up to the Easter break.
