Year 3 have been learning about structures in DT this week. We have been focusing on the importance of triangles and how this can make a building or bridge stronger. The children have been practising building with straws and reinforcing what they have built. We look forward to using cardboard triangles to see if this can help our structures even more next week!

In Year 4 this week we did our first science experiment where we found out what saliva and bile does to our food during digestion. In topic we learnt how to write our names in Egyptian Hieroglyphs on papyrus paper and we finally discovered how the Dream Giver ended in English.

In 5M this week, the children have once more enjoyed swimming at Bramcote Leisure Centre. We have worked hard on rounding in Maths and have started researching a North American location (topic link)  in order to write a travel brochure to persuade a tourist to visit (one day in more normal circumstances!). The children loved Spanish this week with a teacher, who will be returning to Year 5 until half term, from The Bramcote School. In Art, they designed their sculpture in the style of Henry Moore (next week may be a little messier!!!) and have been interesting in learning more about the size and shape of the Earth, moon and sun and also why day and night occur. Another busy week!!!

This week we've been starting to learn the new 100 words for Year 5. These can be found at the back of the partnership books. Please take some time to learn them.

It has been a great week in Year 6.  We have been learning about light, investigating how shadows are formed and how they can change depending on the light source.  In History, we have continued learning about the Ancient Greeks, learning about the different city states whilst focusing on the differences between Athens and Sparta.

Please remember that the deadline for secondary school applications is the end of October and that local secondary schools are offering virtual open evenings and that some are offering open days.  Take a look at their websites for more information.

Year 3 this week have started their fitness campaign in PE. Their objective is to get fitter and faster, and also to sustain stamina in their running. We hope they will all go for a walk this weekend, and maybe try a do little bit of a run, so that next week we can compare their timings.

Year 4 have had a great week getting back into normal lessons and have been working really hard in English and Maths. We also started our topic on Ancient Egypt and in Science we've started looking at the digestive system - 4H have done really well at naming all of the body parts in our digestive system.

    Miss Hyde 4H

In 5M this week, we have started our topic on America and have learned that there are 23 countries in North America.

Linking to this topic, we have now started to read the book ‘Holes’ and are looking forward to discovering what happens to Stanley at Camp Green Lake and why he is there.

In Art, we have investigated sculptures and are looking forward to designing our own next week.

    Mrs Marshall 5M

It has been a lovely week in year 6.  On Monday, the children were put into their teaching groups and we have made a great start to our English and maths units.  In English, we have been recapping Rainbow Grammar and have been describing odd looking creatures.  We have continued reading the Odyssey and have been learning about its origins and the history of Ancient Greece.

Year 3 have been busy completing lots of tests this week and have impressed us so much with their sensible and mature attitude in lessons. We are so proud that they have all tried your best and we look forward to helping them make lots of progress this year!

    Miss Mercer 3M & Mrs Wright 3W

This week, 4O have tried really hard in their tests and the first independent write. We have also explored some stories from the Bible such as Noah's Ark and David and Goliath and we thought about the key themes and messages .In PSHE, we thought about the textures, smells, tastes, sounds and sights that make us feel calmer and safer. There were some excellent ideas.

    Miss Ottowell 4O

I've been really impressed this week with how hard 4H have been working and their attitude during test week. In the afternoons we've been learning about amazing men and women in the bible.

    Miss Hyde 4H

This week has been filled with assessments so that we know our starting points. The children have all worked really hard and should be proud of themselves. As well as this, we have been considering how to keep our thoughts positive in the current climate and have been doing some work based on the book 'The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse.'  We are hoping to have a fantastic weekend so we are ready for next week when English, Maths and all the other subjects will start again 🙂.

    Mrs Marshall 5M

It has been a busy week in Year 6 with all the testing.  Everyone has worked really hard and tried their best.  Well done Year 6! We have been learning about the Muslim faith in RE and how we can help stay safe mentally and physically in PHSE.
