We have had a really busy week in Year 5. In RE, we have been thinking about peace and why Christmas is a time of peace. We thought about what our ideal world would be like and what our ideal Christmas day is like. On Tuesday, we enjoyed a visit from two local police officers, who told us about their job and we were able to explore the police van and try on pieces of the uniform. Some of the children were put in handcuffs and Mia scared us all when she turned on the siren! We hope you enjoyed our Christmas sing-a-long. The children sang beautifully and we are really proud of them.

We all hope you have a lovely Christmas. Stay safe. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

On Tuesday, we were visited by Police Officers, who came to talk to the children about their work and show the children some of the equipment that they use. Children were able to try on different protective clothing, Sit in the back of a police van and even be lucky enough to sound the police sirens. The children were extrememly excited by the visit and it was good to meet the police officers, who keep Stapleford safe.

Year 3 Had a really exciting morning when the police visited. They came to talk about a career in the police and Year 3 were fascinated with the van. They were locked in and tried to get out! Violet was chosen to set the siren off which was really loud.

Year 3 had a fabulous day at the Christmas Fayre. All of them seemed to buy a knitted toy and most had their faces painted. They loved having their own money to spend on what they liked. I was really proud of the way they conducted themselves in the afternoon.

This week, in English, we have been writing diaries. We wrote about a day in South Africa after doing lots of research about it. In Science, we have been exploring the difference between food chains and food webs. We also had lots of fun at the Christmas Fair!

Year 3 had a really exciting week as Phil and Emma came to talk to us about raising money for the Rosie May Foundation. We are using a Smartie tube to collect 20p’s and £1 coins. Of course we can eat the Smarties first! Please ask your child to explain what it is all about and we will see them again on Wed 15th December to give the tubes back.

This week, we have started a new unit of work about area and perimeter and we have been trying to measure accurately. In English, we have continued writing about Alma and we used different techniques, to build tension and suspense. The beads for our Indus Valley jewellery are ready for painting next week. They look great! Miss Woolley was very impressed with our singing this week. The Christmas songs are sounding beautiful.
