This week in Year 4 it has been an exciting and busy week celebrating the Queen's jubilee with lawn games, plate painting, the Jubilee picnic and learning 'Thriller' (a dance from the 1980s- one of the decades that the Queen has lived through). Additionally, the children have learned about the Queen, her family, where she lives and other monarchs from the past. Enjoy a relaxing week  off and we will see you back after the holidays. PE days will stay the same as this half term- Monday and Tuesdays.

Year 3 have had a fabulous Jubilee week. They have played croquet on the lawn, had a jubilee picnic, danced through the decades and painted a jubilee plate. I am sure they can tell you a lot about Queen Elizabeth II and her family. I took some photos so make sure you check them out on the 3W class pages on the Albany website. Enjoy half term and see you in June.

What a fantastic couple of weeks we have had.  We are so proud of all the hard work the children have put into their SATS and how settled they have been since they finished.  It has been lovely this week celebrating the Queen's Jubilee. We have been learning about her coronation and what has happened over time during her reign.  Today, the children have taken part in a dance workshop where each year group has learnt a dance from a particular decade.  We hope they enjoyed their plate painting and their beautiful book.  We hope you all have a lovely half term.

This week has been an exciting week for Year 4. On Monday, we journeyed back in time and met a Viking, who shared with us the history of the Viking period from their invasion in the late 700s and defeat in 1066 at the Battle of Stamford near York not long before The Battle of Hastings in the south (when the Normans took control). We were able to touch artefacts such as swords and axes (that had been blunted) and wear chainmail. As well as this, we played a Viking game with shields and a ball, ground wheat and also spent time in the woods building our homes (den building). It was truly a fantastic but exhausting day (for the teachers and parent helpers too! The following day, we made our Viking necklaces from string and wire. As well as this, we have been learning about the invasion at Lindesfarne and have been writing a newspaper article reporting on it.

This week, we really enjoyed our Scottish themed day, linked to this half term's Humanities topic. We found out about Scottish traditions and culture, including traditional clothing, the Highland Games and clans. We even tried lots of Scottish food such as haggis, oatcakes and tablet. Our Higland Games tournament ended with a tug-o-war competition with the winning clan being the McWinners (named before their win!)

Year 3 had a new teacher with them this week. Miss.Tilley has been part of the Year 3 team while the Year 6 children did their SATS. The Year 3 children have been learning about days, months and years in Maths. They have written an estate agent brochure in English to sell an Ancient Roman Villa. They have brought home a sunflower to grow and measure. If it grows well please take photos for their Science books.
