On Monday 7th June at 6am we entered the Albany Junior Building to find 75% of it under water. Straight away we sourced the issue and isolated the water. A pipe had burst with an incredible amount of water pressure.
An emergency clean up team arrived by lunchtime to pump the water out of the building. The burst pipe itself was fixed by 10am.
Unfortunately due to the burst happening over a weekend school was under inches of water.
The water has caused a significant amount of damage - Carpets, vinyl flooring, skirting boards, built in furniture the corridor library shelving and much more has to be removed.
Teachers were tasked with stripping the classrooms of all furniture, displays, books, their belongings until the rooms and corridors were completely empty. Staff have worked tirelessly to keep to deadlines for the restoration team.
Phase one of the restoration project is now underway - Upper school and all of that half of school including staff facilities and corridors are empty and under the drying out schedule.
We are working with many different teams of people and professionals to get school up and running again.
Hopefully you've all read the letters and updates over the past two weeks
We intend to keep you updated using this page. Please scroll down for photographs and videos. We cant wait to have all the children back in face to face lessons from Monday albeit not in their usual rooms.
Thank you for your kind wishes, gifts and patience at this very difficult time.
