Animals and their habitats



Constructing and interpreting a variety of food chains, identifying producers, predators and prey.


We will learn about the diets of animals and how they fit into a food chain. We will find out how food chains are structured and what they show before creating our own for different sets of animals. 

What are consumers and producers? Can an animal be a predator and prey? Where do plants get their food from?

Recognise that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways


We will identify the characteristics of all living things before sorting a range of animals in different ways, based on different criteria.

Explore and use classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things in their local and wider environment


Asking and answering a range of questions and using a classification key, we will be identifying living things. Have a look at the example below:

Recognise that environments can change and that this can sometimes pose dangers to living things.


We will discover the positive and negative impacts that humans are having on animals and their habitats, focusing on plastic pollution.
