Welcome to Class 5M.
Our teacher is Mrs Marshall.
Mrs Talts, Mrs Jelley and Mrs Burley work with us at different times during the week.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year!
That children, staff, governors and parents work in partnership to create an inspirational learning environment where individuals are given the tools to reach their full potential.
Our Values - The 5R's
Build positive relationships;
Show respect and thought for all;
Are never afraid to take a risk;
Take care and responsibility for themselves and others.
The 5 Golden Rules
Recognise the voice and values of friendship
Understand that we are all individual and unique
Learn from your mistakes and always have a go
Everyone matters and we should show that we care
Stick with it and never give up
Apologies that Zoolab had to be cancelled due to the school being closed to children due to boiler issues. We are currently in the process of rearranging it.
It was rearranged and we had a fantastic afternoon seeing and handling a millipede, snake, tree frog, lizard and rats! :-) See photos below.
The Spring term is well underway and is flying by with all the exciting activities we have done.
PE is currently on a Wednesday and Friday afternoons. For the first half term we have Move and Learn sessions, which are run by Derby County, where the children have half an hour of learning in the classroom and then half an hour of practical activity. On Fridays, we currently have a coach from Derby County supporting with Outside Adventurous Activities where team work is essential.
Homework is given on a Friday most weeks. Homework consists of learning a times table that will be tested the following Friday. There may be a sheet accompanying this, but not necessarily. We do encourage the children to practice times tables regularly as they are so important in so many areas of Maths.

Spellings are also given out weekly. These will either be based on the 100 words or a spelling pattern taught previously, which may also include some of the hundred words. The children have spelling books and should practice their spellings in them.
Children are still encouraged to read at home. If you hear your child read (anything), please sign their Partnership Book.
Learning logs also go out once each half term. Their are lots of different activities for the children to have a go at. We only ask for two and smilies are awarded :~)
Our topics during the Spring Term are the Normans and the Rainforest in Topic. In Science, the focus is on Living Things and their Habitats.
Some Suggested websites could be:
Our topic for this half term is THE AMERICAS and will be the INDUS VALLEY after the half term holidays.
Useful websites linked to your topic:
On Mondays, we will no longer be swimming from the third week after half term. We will be using some of this time to start to rehearse for our Christmas service, which will be near to the end of term (details to follow)
On Fridays, we have PE. Please have kit. We have had the fantastic opportunity to work on accuracy with SH Active 'Nerf Wars' and now are taking part in Martial Arts. We may be outside when the weather permits, but make sure that you have suitable clothing eg. jogging bottoms and a jumper.
In Science, we learned about FORCES.
In the second half of the Autumn term, we are reading Gilgamesh and in Science we are learning about earth in Space.
We are looking forward to visiting the space centre in December (details will follow).
